We are starting to run out of agencies we can trust to keep us safe.

NEW: The weather radar for the San Francisco area is down and there is no timeline for when it will come back online. And that's not the only weather hardware outages in California. Are federal funding cuts to blame? @edwardsanthonyb.bsky.social with the story. www.sfchronicle.com/weather/arti...

At the Texas A&M Small Animal Hospital with this little girl…

Get you someone who’ll give you a beef jerky bouquet for Valentine’s Day.

Zoom out far enough and this looks less like Google revising history to suit one individual, and more like an elaborate troll of the US.

Back when I had a Twitter account, I saw this t-shirt advertised and bought it immediately.

I love these two with all I have. I just hope they’re not too frustrated living with a couple of olds.

Waiting on what might be snow…

I was planning on going to the office today to work on this proposal that’s due soon but apparently my Warby Parker glasses order is out for delivery….

This year’s batch of black eyed peas has a lot riding on it.

You were the absolute greatest and I will miss you forever…

Yesterday was our 34th anniversary…

The important part of singing along to Warren Zenon’s “Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner” is remembering he is not headless for the first 25% of the song. The meter of the chorus is off if you forget.

Genius idea - develop a kiosk system for installation in hotels and conference centers where you can rent these things for your laptop.

On the Metro and the one-day trip to #AGU in DC begins.

Got in the elevator and the lights started flickering…

Keeping an eye on food stores to see if we can make it until after Black Friday and the Lone Star Showdown…

Trying to provide helpful advice to grad students over Zoom is hard enough without having someone continually reminding you of dinner time…

Coastal science and engineering starter pack!

Time to discuss better pain management with the vet. This guy will be 10 years old next month.

I ran on Snapple Raspberry Iced Tea when I was writing my dissertation. I can’t find it where I live now so it’s a good day if I find some on travel. Also, if you had told me when I was a grad student that there would be a Zero Sugar version in 30 years, I would have accused you of witchcraft.

So with one email I managed to accidentally put myself in charge of a major effort due sometime over the holidays. I will now take your questions about how to reclaim your time in academia.

Now that I’m on a new platform, allow me to flog my work… I recently worked on an NAS-funded project (led by Environmental Defense Fund) to evaluate vulnerabilities of Houston communities to toxic flooding. I did the Delft3D flood modeling (coupled with SWAT). createnbs.org

In line at Piada: Cashier: “We were all wondering if you have a brother who’s an actor.” Me: “I don’t…wait a minute, you were all wondering?” Cashier: “Well, he <pointing to grill guy> wondered first and then we were all wondering if you were that guy…oh, what’s his name?” Me: “I think I know…”
