I've been using Git since it was invented and "yours" and "theirs" might as well be "hnunch" and "grwinf" for all they make sense to me as names for "the branch I'm rebasing main" and "the I'm rebasing *onto*". I have to look at the contents every. single. time. to figure out which one means which.

Was excited to find a local print shop, then read this. Pass.

I’ve taken pay cuts, been laid off, and had times where the contract work dried up. But I can’t imagine a scenario where I would take a job at Palantir. I’d rather leave tech entirely than do that.

They’re planning on building a detention center for migrants in the middle of the fetid swamps of Florida. If you think this is something new, the first internment camp they sent me and my family to in 1942 was a barbed wire prison called Rohwer. It was located in the swamps of Arkansas.

Homeschooling has had a banner year.

Breaking: This morning, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled 6-3, upholding states' ability to ban transgender health care for minors. Because there is no law in Michigan that bans transgender health care, this decision does not impact health care for transgender youth in Michigan.

to counter the media’s “protests are so inconvenient” narrative i’d like to share that i just flew back into town and the drive from burbank to DTLA took the exact same 30 minutes it always does so everything is just fine here except for ICE being fascist thugs and abducting people

I’m imagining a song called “Your Paragraph Text Goes” and these are the lyrics.

If no one gets fired for buying IBM, does that mean you get promoted if IBM takes your code without acknowledging you? Asking for a me #dataBS

Ron DeSantis stranded drivers at a bridge with no warning just to stop rainbow colors from appearing on it.

Happy Pride! May your buttoned shirts have citrus fruit patterns. May your keys remain secure on a ring. May your coffee always be iced. Amen.

people will say “your site is upside down and inverted on my browser” and when i ask them which browser they use it’s always something like Thunderpussbox 45x Developer Edition which is ofc the default browser for the Crab Sauce linux distro originally made for a triangle shaped smart anklet in 2014

Before #SkinCancerAwareness month is up, I wanted to encourage everyone to see a dermatologist, especially if you notice something a little odd with your skin. Last year, I had a spot on my temple that turned out to be an early-stage basal cell carcinoma. Grateful we caught it so early.

Confirmed: starting your prompt with "hey dingus" does not improve the response any. But it is a bit cathartic.

I have a low-vision student who is learning to code JavaScript. She needs a better code editor to work with, and/or some plugins to make it work better with her screen readers. What do the accessible developers recommend? #accessibility #screenreader

I am disappointed in the AI discourse steveklabnik.com/writing/i-am...

I'll make an even bolder statement. If the choice were between an in-person job in Houston at an oil + gas company vs. working remotely from Grand Rapids, I would recommend an early-career software engineer pick GR. Houston's tech scene has always seemed to be MIA. GR has a small, but active one.

You can skate by with informal knowledge and keeping state in people's heads and making it accessible via in-person conversation if you are in person. Mandatory written artifacts create a lot of overhead for many people if they are not reading and writing first people.

I have a lot of thoughts on this. I worked remotely for a company before and became a remote EM there right as the pandemic got started. Most of the eng team was already remote, and several had moved out of SF (or were about to). We were functioning well as a distributed company.

Done. Also requested that the Federal government fund free COVID-19 vaccines.

I realized something recently, which is that we're building AI tools completely backwards. While I was aware that there's some de-skilling happening already, I finally clicked a bunch of pieces together and decided to write this to talk about how we can do *better* hazelweakly.me/blog/stop-bu...

There is a false dichotomy drawn between "the ivory tower" and "the real world," and I'm here to report that in a post-industrial society, your real-world economy absolutely hinges on the university. University towns are factory towns. Universities drive economic activity, not the other way around.

Just watched this. @eveporcello.com's team came up with something absolutely sinister!

If you're in the US and got denied a health insurance claim, please check fighthealthinsurance.com It's FREE, will not hoard your private information, and yes it's AI, but used for good (and made by someone who really knows what she's doing ❤️ and all code is on github)
