Put brush to boot last night. Literally the first time using Windsor Newton brushes in about four years. The gig seemed to call for it. #traditionalart #speedballink #cartooning

Attending a city hall rally this afternoon in opposition to City Council’s proposal to pause the creation of supportive housing while pushing through plans for monstrous tower development. The sign I created for the last action will be revived this afternoon. Yeah, I said it!

Bare shelves of a comic store are a sadness. Farewell to 8th Dimension on Main, just below our studios. If in Van, gppio say hi to our pal Nick before Friday. Thanks for hooking me up with a prime copy of Prime Cuts missing from my collection, Nick!

THE CARTOONIST COOPERATIVE IS PROUD TO ANNOUNCE... The very first DIGITAL COMICS RESIDENCY! A PAID opportunity for comics creators AROUND THE WORLD. Learn more at our journal: cartoonist.coop/journal/anno... (Art by @amandajealous.bsky.social !)

Ink test, check, check. Literally the first time I've brought out the Winsor Newton brushes in years, but my gorgeous Number 2 seems to still be in top form (no, I'm not selling!). Usually I'll go with felt, but a current project just seems to call for the genuine brush and ink (Speedball).

#sketchoftheday: My swing at a “daily strip” in honour of Gareth Gaudin, cartoonist and owner of the Legends Comics store in Victoria, who has drawn literally thousands of these and celebrates his birthday today. Gareth is a big ally in a shrinking comic world. Perogy Cat c. G Gaudin.

WIP: Revising the cover for the Black Sunday (small-press comic) reprint.

Pre-game prep happening at 750 Hamilton in lovely room 101 for Ivana Filipovic's talk on Balkan cartoonists tonight!

A reminder that this is happening at 'The Post' downtown tonight! Ivana takes us through world of comics in Serbia, Bosnia, Croatia, and Slovenia. Free admission. Visit www.alcuinsociety.com for free registration.

Just a reminder: this talk hosted by Ivana Filipovic is happening in tomorrow! "Discover the vibrant world of independent comic arts in the Balkans at my talk on February 19, 7 PM, hosted by the Alcuin Society in Vancouver." See the Alcuin site for free registration! www.alcuinsociety.com

OK, this is important, comics folk & fans. CARE ABOUT THIS! The Trump Junta is banning books from libraries on military bases. His goons are purging shelves of any books that push “radical indoctrination” of kids. What IS that? Whatever they say it is. All of MAGAland will then ban these books.

Bill Morrison gives us a look at the amazing new Futurama art design book from Abrams. Lamentably, there is no option to order outside the States. I may need to pull some strings. Look quick for early Dave Cooper environment design. 13thdimension.com/shut-up-and-...

Discover the world of independent comic arts in the Balkans at Ivana Filipovich's talk on February 19, 7 PM. I know she will be a great guide through this collective of comic talent. And I'll be giving an intro! Free to attend but registration is required. www.alcuinsociety.com/events/adven...

I know a lot of us feel this way most days of the year. Happy Valentine's to my fellow Pennys out there! Ollie Johnston layouts for the Rescuers.

Last Cartens Classic ever (closing today). Who wants to share?

I reported yesterday about VTU supporters showing up for Jon as he fought a bogus eviction ruling. He reported this morning has won his appeal! A lot of us were fearing the worst, but this is now a huge victory and sets an important precedent. Here's to the power of grassroots communal action ✊️.

Charles Schulz passed away 25 years ago today. I drew this strip in tribute shortly after. It originally appeared in the Terminal City's comic strip section (for those who remember the free Van paper of local happenings).

Today members of the VTU gathered at the courthouse to support Jon, a W End tenant, as he made one last effort to appeal an absolutely bogus eviction ruling (he lost an attempt to overturn an RTB ruling 2 weeks ago). Jon gets an official decision later this afternoon. The vibes are positive!

This idiot just has to say these things and it becomes official? F*ck no. Go go Gulf of Mexico!

This is a wholly worthwhile effort featuring some great talents (with much needed information about the abhorrent nature of Project 2025 documented). Props to the comic artists involved! stopproject2025comic.org

I've trusted the middle child of the Cunninghams since I was six.

This was a commission I drew over the holidays, and my first time entering the ‘Disenchantment’ world. Tho my commissions were closed for December, the young client requested the piece as a Christmas gift for his sweetie, and so I could not resist the romantic gesture. Look at these cuties 🧡.

#sketchoftheday: "Bottom Feeder Re-visited".

I posted art in tribute of Abby’s plight earlier this week, but it’s really worth watching her speak about the matter in her own words. I find her testimonial on an almost oppressively wet street in Vancouver Friday really heart-wrenching. Overhaul the RTB. vancouver.citynews.ca/video/2025/0...

Yesterday Abby was given a stay of eviction at the courthouse but Jon (seen speaking) was not so lucky. Having saved a neighbour’s painting in the communal area of his building from new management throwing them out, the sleazeball landlord now had grounds to evict-- absurdly upheld in court.
