How do you navigate the space between instructor and facilitator? medium.com/voiceedu/tea... #EduSky #FutureOfLearning #EdTech

Four keys to productive coaching conversations: 1. Focus on relationship-building and cultivating trust. 2. Keep the conversation going. 3. Ask questions: for clarity, out of curiosity, and for permission to share feedback. 4. Be comfortable with where the conversation goes. #edusky #educoach

If you're a crossword solver, check out today's LA Times puzzle—I constructed it!

A4: I include a self-assessment with every major assignment. Something I borrowed from a colleague is also asking students to sum up what they did well and where they want to continue to grow. #ungrading #edusky

The ONLY instructional strategy with a NEGATIVE effect size: Lecturing. -0.26 or 1/2 a year's loss Why? It's passive. There's no room for engagement or interaction necessary for deep understanding & skill development. Just a lot of one person talking. #EduSky #EduCoach

A3: I have found it takes time for students to become comfortable with this process. Frequent 1:1 conferences are helpful starting points. Meeting regularly for informal discussions about their work helps ease the transition to reviewing a larger body of work later on. #ungradingchat #edusky

If you're at #NCSS2024 this weekend and interested in this topic, I'll be doing a poster session with a colleague on Friday from 10:50 to 11:45 AM! We'll share strategies for engaging students in "visible thinking" activities throughout each stage of the inquiry process.

Q2: A gradebook "hack" I adapted from Sarah Zerwin’s Point-Less: Track daily progress, but base the final grade on a conference where Ss bring evidence of meeting course goals and discuss what grade they earned. The conference is weighted at 99% to override the other scores. #EduSky #UngradingChat

A3 I have used Adobe Express and like the features that are available but need to become more comfortable with it. I look forward to seeing other examples of how educators use it! #EduSkyChat

A2: It's not a new tool, but I can't imagine not using NoodleTools with students. It's a great resource for helping students organize research projects from start to finish. They are always updating it, too! #EduSkyChat

A1: Google Slides - When I teach a class, I post a slide deck every day for students that includes all of the key content and materials for the lesson. I can't imagine not doing it that way because I have used it for so long! #EduSkyChat

Hi, I'm Joe and I am an instructional leader for social studies in Connecticut. I haven't participated in one of these chats in a long time but always enjoyed learning from other people! #EduSkyChat

Grading is a chance for a student and teacher to discuss how well the student has met course goals and where they need support or enrichment. I value student self-assessment, reflection, and voice, just as we appreciate those same elements in our own professional evaluations. #UngradingChat #edusky

Nov. 18, 1924: The crossword craze spreads to other languages and other alphabets, as The Forward of New York publishes this, the first Yiddish crossword puzzle. The accompanying article notes the fad has spread across the U.S. "like a plague." Solution below.

Great points, particularly about giving feedback! I always quote @ctovani.bsky.social: the ones doing the reading, the writing, and the talking are the ones doing the thinking. A good way to start that conversation might be: "How would you describe the amount of teacher vs. student talk?"

👥 Students who have #IEPs are not "special education students." They are simply students. They belong to every educator they have. Receiving a service shouldn't impose an identity. #LeadInclusion #EdLeaders #Teachers #UDL #UDLchat #SpecialEducation #InclusiveEd #MTSS #ATchat #EdChat #EduSky

Let's try this again. The correct link this time. I created a blog post with some tips about using @bsky.app and some reasons to switch over. alicekeeler.com/2024/11/13/t... #EduSky

Looking forward to connecting with other educators here! #EduSky
