Notes on moving into HQ1: jmduke.com/posts/post/h...

claude code feels like the first step-function improvement since copilot launched. still feels like it needs to get better-integrated with tooling, but the amount of rote work it can do is really meaningful.

oh come on

I feel like I would print a lot more stuff if I could just text my printer. Is Brother working on this

I enabled Apple Intelligence on a lark whilst setting up a new Mac mini and suddenly the general populace's cynicism about the capabilities of AI makes much more sense

Have been sitting on a few fragments about corporate niceness/naughtiness for a few months and, after several failed attempts at organizing them into a coherent gestalt, I am admitting defeat and publishing the fragments as-is. jmduke.com/posts/post/n...

i wrote this copy back in...2019, I think, and i'd like to think that it's held up pretty well. prose is more durable than code, sometimes! bsky.app/profile/amyb...

New post: YOLO-squashing our Django repository.

genuine question: this is fake, right? intent is non-binding, and insolvency is a fairly rare end state for a company

New post: Humane Inc..

more broadly, I think many problems with Industry can be easily summed up with the fact that an average user is rational and correct to trust an anonymous guy named Ronald working nights and weekends to maintain `runk` more than they an organization with one hundred million dollars

i think in general it is not virtuous to crow about failed startups but i cannot think of a steeper nor more illustrative fall from grace than going from raising a $100m Series C while still in stealth mode to ignominiously selling off your assets + balance sheet to HP

tiny bit of Django arcana: rather than do the "correct" thing of squashing migrations using the tooling, we yolo-deleted-and-recreated the entire migration folder today. shaved ~90seconds off of CI with no chaos to speak of. recommend!

Some notes on Wild Things, a film that dares to ask "what if David Mamet was horny?" jmduke.com/posts/post/w...

another reason why i love storybook-driven workflows: this screenshot for an upcoming changelog entry is just... part of the codebase.

a belated answer! bsky.app/profile/matt...

on a lark, soft-launching a new subscriber detail view tonight. it's rare that you get to design something that feels monotonically superior to what came before it, but it's helpful when the previous iteration was uncommonly bad

some truly incredible images from an upcoming @buttondown.com blog post

i have been sleeping on mermaid. this is such a nice way to author architecture docs.

here is a fun fact: buttondown's backend test suite contains 2856 tests and executes 158124 database queries

Some thoughts on Being John Malkovich, which was even better than its reputation implied: jmduke.com/posts/post/b...

New post: Becoming Trader Joe.

New post: February, 2025.

spending an hour on a lovely sunday looksmaxxing the pytest output

one thing to understand is that working with me is, at best, deeply unpleasant

i need duolingo to pivot their entire gamification death star apparatus and instead focus on making sure i stop breaking main branch
