Ames v Ohio Department of Youth Services was unanimous? OK? I'm not sure the analysis of legal experts on cable news of this decision making it easier to file reverse discrimination is necessarily the best analysis ... given that it was a unanimous decision.

As a concerned American, I would like to see *all* the receipts for Kristi Noem's arrest for the Boulder terror attack.(And yes, it was a terror attack). Since she couldn't even properly describe due process, I sincerely doubt her ability to investigate, let alone prevent future attacks.

White Christian nationalist fear ... but yeah.

I'm not seeing it. I'm also not a copyright attorney. So I'm waiting for @legaleagle.tv to do a breakdown of the suit. Though, I doubt with the Trump Administration setting fire to democracy and all, this will get much consideration.

Please stop naming your dogs Coda (or any other orthographic variation of it). It's the end of a musical movement. Not the name of man's best friend. And I'll die on this hill. (Sacasm, sort of ... like 59%)

Terrorism isn't good at all, not even as a measure of last resort. It screws over potential allies and sympathizers by giving autocrats a pretext for curtailing civil rights. And it does *nothing* tangible to help the people you want helped.

I will say this about the allegations of ketamine abuse leveled at Elon Musk. He denies *abusing* ketamine, not *using* ketamine. Though, most people who use ketamine for TRD have a *lot* of restrictions placed on use. So, what's wrong with Musk's protestations?

I wish more people would've paid attention when the Maya Angelou maxim was invoked on Joni Ernst 10 years ago rather than wait a decade years to find out in a town hall meeting that she's heartless.

Is there some sort of ground water issue in Iowa hog farms where some sort of fungus that attacks the anterior insular cortex, thus removing any semblance of empathy? Cordyceps republicanus?

🎶TACO, TACO Trump. I always see a TACO Trump. TACO, TACO Trump. I always see a TACO ..🎶

Kristi Noem is really trying hard to do her best Leni Reifenstahl, but she's just not smart enough to. And that's really saying something because Leni wasn't the brightest star in the heavens. The fact that Trump selected for loyalty over competence may actually save us from a Christofascist state!

So there have been 30 seasons of it already, but I just found Married at First Sight. I mean, the stats are clear that this particular brand of matchmaking is less than half as successful as organically grown relationships.

I don't speak ill of the dead. So I have nothing to say about the death of Phil Robertson.

I get that any novel claims by Trump about the evil of Putun are .. oh, what's the word, incredulous? But, do we think that Trump has enough insight to realize he's been the useful idiot in their relationship or not?

Friendly reminder: Having a mental health diagnosis can only mitigate bad behavior, and that's only if the behavior is related to the diagnosis. Not, say, voting for something unpopular as a Senator.

Like a broken clock. Yes, Apple *could* move all manufacturing over to the US. But literally nobody will eat the cost of doing that. Not the government, not Apple shareholders, not Apple consumers.

Why tho? I mean I know that an already proven corrupt official is more likely to do corrupt acts again, so high potential ROI.

That was a Freudian slip, not a denture slip.

Look, two things can both be wrong at the same time. Netanyahu can be committing genocide while an antisemitic objector could be committing antisemitic killings on US soil. It's not exactly a difficult needle to thread.

The Stage 4 prostate cancer announcement by Biden seems to cast the entire 2024 campaign into a different light.

You mean ICE Barbie didn't know what habeas corpus actually was? No, I simply don't believe that. (Sarcasm)

To be clear, there isn't a white genocide going on in South Africa. They do have crimen injuria, which racists don't like. That's not at all genocide.

There are so few 7-2 decisions nowadays on SCOTUS. I'm hoping that this means that they aren't going to go so far as to allow suspension of habeas corpus or suspend/up-end due process. But, it also seems to me that it's just a matter of asking SCOTUS the questions on the right way to do both.

The problem beyond the obvious corruption is that we now have administration that won't accept the truth if it isn't consistent with their worldview, even if it is to their benefit. When has that ever ended well?

Yes, she definitely gets some... interesting soundbytes. A lot of them are substantive. Some are, well, problematic. Butch body? Governor Hot Wheels? I hope I'm wrong about this, but she does seem to lose focus on issues when she engages in ad hominem attacks. That's a liability we can't afford.

Is that a tacit confirmation that Senate Dems are ready to filibuster if necessary to keep habeas corpus? Probably not.

Is there enough of a data set to conclude that autocratic are bad for the economy, or are we still waiting for the bottom of the market to fall out?

Trump just can't help himself where the emoluments clause is concerned. Can he?

A lot of conjecture about the politics and preferences of the new pontiff Leo XIV. I suggest we wait and see. There's a reason that the conclave is secretive, and it isn't so the temporal doesn't affect the spiritual. It's so that the church can get as much good press as possible to start.

Yeah, AI vids of murder victims should *NOT* be allowed to be used in sentencing determinations. It's overly prejudicial and more than likely nothing more than an aspiration of what the victim would say given the facts of the case, not what would actually say. I'm looking at you, Arizona.

Violating the Elvira Hancock principle here, Christian nationalist sigma puppet Trump doesn't realize you have to be a *practicing Catholic* to be Pope. Not "non-denominational Christian" like his WH bio reads.

Anybody who answers the question "What does [Title of Written Work] mean to you?" with "It means exactly what it says." has not read the work.

In order to reconcile the world with the US post Trump, we're going to have to make it so that another Trump doesn't get elected ever again. How, though?

So, like Dollar Store von Schirach is trying to start the Chrisna (Christian Nationalist, consider this me workshopping the term) version of the Hitlerjugend. Patriotism isn't nationalism. Miller can't tell the difference.

Exactly what ethics were breached? If Elon feels that ethics were breached, he can (and probably will) sue for libel. Though, if it turns out that the story was vetted properly (sourced and confirmed), that would be embarrassing. Especially if Tesla share owners decide to nix Elon later.

So, what does the general American public (not partisans or MAGAts) think of investigating Hilary Clinton for *checks paper* stuff? Are Republicans really going to offer up the empty piñata that is Hilary Clinton to distract from the really bad no good economic policy? It appears so.

Has anybody checked on James Carville since his t-shirt tirade? No. Do I care? No.

So, Trump's toadies now want us to handicap the GDP numbers (a courtesy he was unwilling to extend to his predecessor) because it's actually a win. If you don't count the trade war, that only an obscure economist and Trump wanted to begin with. 🧐

Disagree. AOC should be the ranking member on House oversight committee.

I don't expect there to be very many, if any, trade deals to be struck to abate Trump's tariffs. Why bother negotiating with someone as capricious as Trump? He'll likely just Welch on the deal as soon as it proves politically inexpedient.

Perception is reality in politics, and irrespective of the tangible results (such as they are for a party in the minority) Dems are currently less popular among independents than Republicans, although as the trade war goes on, that may change. Is that 'failing'? 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

I have a feeling that Vance would be worse than Trump. And would be better able to hide impeachable offenses. And there won't be public support for double impeachment.

OK, so the fact that Trump (or, for that matter, any president) arresting a judge isn't the reason to clutch pearls. The reason is that the facts supporting the charges don't indicate an actual crime was committed.

I think it's a nothingburger, but since Noem seems to think it's OK to deprive people of their liberty simply for being Salvadoreño, I'm here for the rampant speculation about exactly what $3,000 was *really* for. My conjecture is selling prescription pain pills.

If I may, Old Salt, this is obviously a pedantic objection. "Innocent until proven guilty." is the ordinary language parsing of the presumption of innocence. Words do have meaning, often multiple meanings. But logically, if you believe innocent until proven guilty, you can infer the presumption.
