SAY IT

Period! Call it what it is! ✍🏾👩🏾‍💻🎯📚🖤⚖️

Read this timely essay on the cruelty of #Medicaid work requirements by anthropologist @danilynrutherford.bsky.social , whose memoir "Beautiful Mystery" will be out this fall:

Tiya Miles’ search in All That She Carried inspired me to dig deeper for answers in THE TROUBLE OF COLOR. #weekofgratitude

It's hard to describe what a feat this is, and shouldered by a much smaller group than the folks who captured the data. @asegerberg.bsky.social has been chipping away at this database for years. Rescuing data is hard, but curating & publishing it is a much harder, lonely slog. Prepare for it.

From your friends at #ReviewsInDH: "We firmly believe that the integrity of knowledge production depends on a commitment to championing a broad range of perspectives, voices, and stories, and we will continue to honor our commitment."

New! @jenguiliano.bsky.social and I are please to share the February issue of #ReviewsInDH, “Mapping Black Radical Joy” from African and African Diaspora topic editors Cherice Escobar Jones and Tinashe Mushakavanhu. reviewsindh.pubpub.org/v6-n2

I wish more people knew about the 1920s Klan because they—perhaps more than European fascists—are the model for Trumpism. This is a good summary and a nice reminder that they do a lot of damage, but in the end, fascists always lose.

Thank you sis! Karen Attiah incubated this thought as well and wrote about it in full here! www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/202...

Hey Yall, we launched a substack today! We examine fictional worlds while talking about real world problems and tropes. Check out The World-Builders Club today! open.substack.com/pub/worldbui...

The vampire can't get into your house unless you invite him. His offer to debate you about this situation is his first step across the threshold. We should probably keep this in mind.

Anyway, tomorrow is another day to fight back. Let's do that.

Happening now: protesters are outside the Fine Arts Building on Michigan Avenue in downtown Chicago this evening. People are in line to see House of Reps Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries for an event tonight promoting his recently released book. Crowd chanting at them, "we don't need a book tour!"

Prof. Pedro Pereira, OSU AAUP member: "By casting suspicion on an entire profession and by insisting on imposing a nefarious bill despite the overwhelming rejection by Ohioans," proponents of SB 1 "want to overhaul Ohio’s higher education system to make sure that it *won’t* attract brilliant minds."

Missed the Slavery in Motion event featuring Remains // an archive, artists Julia Mallory, Romaine McNeil, Sha-Shonna Rogers, and Tatiana Esh, and Professor Jessica Johnson @jmjafrx.bsky.social ? You can read a recap now on our Substack: lifexcode.substack.com/p/recap-slav...

“We are the checks and balances,” says federal worker Chris Dols, who is organizing protests against mass government layoffs. Dols calls on the broader labor movement to get involved in opposition to DOGE’s power grab.

New and devastating reporting from my colleagues showing just how dangerous it has become to be pregnant and in Texas after the state banned abortion. Please read and share: www.propublica.org/article/texa...

Republicans are feeling the heat and trying to squirm away from Musk's unpopular cuts. Don't let them.

"The level of access DOGE possesses means that the organization may already be able to siphon data that Musk or his agents could hold on to forever, long after his time as a government liaison, or even after a potential falling-out with the president."

My friend @zombiespaceship on Instagram, who has her masters in library sciences and is damn good at organizing information, has put together a useful resource— a running list of all of Trump’s executive orders, sorted by subject category docs.google.com/file/d/11U3Q...

Joseph Boulogne, Le Chevalier de Saint-Georges, was a renowned Afro-French composer, violinist, conductor, champion fencer, & colonel. The son of a French planter & an enslaved mother, he was a brilliant musician & swordsman who fought for the egalitarian ideals of the French Revolution.

We're in a coup, which means we're in a nightmare, which means we're all ramped up, so let me offer you some deep time, perseverance, and beauty, before you and I go back to the work.

We're just one week away from welcoming @jmjafrx.bsky.social to campus for The Third Body. There's still time to RSVP to see her in person. https://go.umd.edu/wgssjohnson2025

TOMORROW (WED): Rallies are being held across the country to protest the funding cuts to science and the illegal firing of federal workers. Please join if you can. We need to show that many people oppose these destructive attacks on science and healthcare. Details: labor4highered.org

"My deepest wish, as I see jokes about deportation come from the mouths of the descendants of African slaves, is that we remember white supremacy has never stopped at borders, bodies or race." - Clarissa Brooks calling Black women in. God, I love this. forgeorganizing.org/article/soli...

this is the type of article folks should share on facebook—assuming you’re still over there like i am, screaming into the abyss of family and friends i grew up with

Brian Gibbs had no clue Friday would be his last day at his dream job. The education technician park ranger at Effigy Mounds National Monument in Iowa reported to work, only to be terminated on despite receiving an exceptional performance evaluation in the fall.

A woman who’s originally from Venezuela was stopped in Tucson for driving 25 in a 40 zone. Border Patrol arrived, handcuffed her in front of her children. All three were detained, interrogated, threatened with transfer to Guantanamo. Then, they were deported to Mexico azluminaria.org/2025/02/16/v...

The Washpost, which is bleeding millions of dollars and shrinking its staff, accepted -- and then rejected -- a $115,000 ad that criticized Elon Musk. Anyway, here's the ad that the Post's business side didn't want its readers to see ⤵️ thehill.com/media/514849...

I am genuinely asking: can this potentially lead to international airports no longer accepting flights from US based carriers?

E N E R G Y 💫

THAT part

It's annoying how clearly this is going to play out. They gut the FAA. Therefore, the FAA can't do its job well because it was gutted. Therefore, they say "The FAA sucks, we have to privatize it." which is what Project 2025 wants to do. They're manufacturing the crises for their end goal.

My Ace is outside this spring!!!!! Go, go go!!!!!!! #thetroubleofcolor

I’m thrilled to announce the March dates for THE TROUBLE OF COLOR tour! Thanks to these incredible individuals for joining me - I’m truly humbled! And I hope to see you there Cambridge, New York, Baltimore and DC!

more and more these days, I find myself thinking that you can accept the discipline of your political goals or you can accept the discipline of your resentments.
