I don't think people really get how these employee purges are just going to break the culture of public organizations for a very long time.

Dear NSF scientists and staff: If you're looking to talk to a journalist about what's going on at the agency, please reach out (from a non-governmental phone/computer) via signal @jonlambert.12

I wrote this NASA page about wildfires and climate change, and I'm so excited it's finally live. It's a tireless effort to get big pages published at NASA - as it should be! How long will it remain up? Who knows. Check it out while you still can. 🧪 #climatesky science.nasa.gov/wildfires-an...

Is your NSF grant on this list? Reach out if so! Ted Cruz released a list of grants flagged for DEI or "neo-Marxist class warfare propaganda" from his Oct. report. NSF is using keywords from that report for their review, though Cruz's list is likely larger. www.commerce.senate.gov/2025/2/cruz-...

The American Bar Association standing up for what is really at stake. It's not just about government following "the will of the people". It's also about doing this in accordance with the laws and Constitution of our country. If you see this differently, then it's not democracy that you want.

Hey everyone. We're in a new place and it's pretty nice so far. How about we keep it that way by making a change? How about we don't insult, belittle, curse, demean, or make fun of people whose opinions differ from our own—even if we think they are not reading. Wouldn't that be better?

Entirely unsuprisingly, it looks like the Trump administration wants to cut the NSF budget by 2/3. I'm an NSF-funded researcher. Let's talk about what this would look like. Because there are unintended consequences you might not be aware of. 1/ www.science.org/content/arti...

In other news, today is something like my 10000th day in a row of not eating any animals. And yes I'm getting enough protein, thanks. I don't think people appreciate how good it feels to know you're not taking part in a system that causes so much needless suffering. Also vegetables are delicious.

This sounds like something you say if you are interested in an absolute ruler, and not the head of the executive branch whose powers are subject to the checks and balances set forth in the Constitution. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/09/u...

Please read this tragic story from @starlord37.bsky.social‬ about how abruptly cutting DEI programs pulls the rug out from under talented researchers, who were specially encouraged to apply for these programs and not others, with potentially career-ending consequences. It's both cruel and foolish.

I'm a researcher funded by NSF. The indirect funds that are being slashed to 15% at NIH, and probably NSF soon, are not some kind of markup or profit. These pay for essential things like rent for a building to work in, lab space, salaries of people who manage benefits for the organization... 1/

Posterity! You will never know, how much it cost the present Generation, to preserve your Freedom! I hope you will make a good Use of it. If you do not, I shall repent in Heaven, that I ever took half the Pains to preserve it. John Adams, a founding father, in 1777 www.masshist.org/digitaladams...

I run a yearlong program called Life Skills for Young Scientists where we study essential skills for a happy and meaningful life. Each month I record a talk about a relevant topic. These might be useful resources: open.spotify.com/show/7GQcLJG... This month: "Staying Motivated in Difficult Times"

I'm covering changes at NOAA for @bloomberg.com. Hoping to talk with people who work w/ the agency or have in the past. Here's how to get in touch. Call or text me on the free Signal app: lgrosen.03 Email me: lrosenthal21[at]bloomberg.net Submit a tip: www.bloomberg.com/tips/

Just going to leave this right here...

But shall this crazed old man be tamely suffered to drag a whole ship’s company down to doom with him?
