En direct, guerre à Gaza : au moins dix-sept morts dans des frappes israéliennes, selon la défense civile palestinienne

Starmer knows full well that the SC was merely construing a statute; determining what Parliament had meant by the word “woman” in the Equality Act. Its conclusion is now the law in respect of that Act, that’s all. There is then humanity, empathy, intelligence & the possibility of changing the law

League tables of crimes by nationality? @yvettecooper-mp.bsky.social knows perfectly well this is meaningless but worse, that it will be taken as meaningful, especially by the Daily Mail, Sun & BBC. What does she expect to gain from it?

NEW: Read the resignation letter of three federal prosecutors who'd worked on the Eric Adams case: "Now, the Department has decided that obedience supersedes all else, requiring us to abdicate our legal and ethical obligations in favor of directions from Washington." static01.nyt.com/newsgraphics...

Being in the midst of choosing & installing, I was glad to discover this pod. And I’ve just listened to 4 episodes on my walk. Totally, utterly and impossibly ridiculous decision from the BBC - this is a useful consumer podcast. Not a shred of anything political at all!!!Crazy & shocking from #bbc.

The only controversy surrounding heat pumps is the one manufactured by fossil fuel interests and promoted by the populist parties. Most people in the UK have a heat pump at home. It's called a fridge. No complaints on those, lads?

@evanhd.bsky.social I am sure you know that a government failing to take the necessary measures to meet the carbon budgets & net zero would act unlawfully, as required by Parliament. Really difficult to see how the BBC can legitimately say complying with the law is controversial!

It's a heat pump. Physics is just like that. Saying they are "controversial" is literally like saying your fridge is controversial (same underlying principle).

NEW: Dow plummets almost 1000 points, wiping $1.4 trillion off stocks. Dollar falls again; now at a 3 year low. Bond yields rise. Capital is fleeing. The US stock market is heading for its worst April since the Smoot-Hawley Tariffs & the Great Depression.

En direct, guerre à Gaza : le bilan des frappes israéliennes de la nuit dernière passe à 25 morts, selon la défense civile du territoire palestinien

Incredible to see the BBC demanding this be shut because (paraphrased!) "the actual facts only show one side of the debate". Presumably there was no room on an informative podcast about heat pumps for the sort of people who think they don't work, and who keep their ice creams in the oven.

The BBC has been completely subverted by the denialist Tories, yet the bloody Labour government hasn’t done a damn thing to re-establish its independence.

It’s also very revealing as to what is going on inside the BBC and why, this morning’s interview with Larry Summers, who was introduced only as a former president of Harvard, was so lame, proceeding on the basis that Trump’s attacks on universities was justified by antisemitism issues.

A private workshop took place last month in Washington DC, hosted by the Heritage Foundation... ...to discuss proposals by European right-wing lobby groups to dismantle the European Union and the European Court of Justice.

This is profoundly irresponsible by the BBC. Truly shocking. It should actually be a BBC podcast. @evanhd.bsky.social

BBC bans Evan Davis from informing the public on heat pumps. “As the world has ‘progressed’ in the past few months” the BBC “has become concerned that anything like this - informing people about heat pumps - can be interpreted as treading on areas of pulic controversy” youtu.be/RJPKgngqoX0?...

Well we can only hope he is trounced.

The kids are really not buying it!

“Never have we so hurt and mistreated our common home as we have in the last two hundred years. Reducing greenhouse gases requires honesty, courage and responsibility. Those who will have to suffer the consequences will not forget this failure of conscience and responsibility.” — Pope Francis

18/19 yo Euro backpackers were detained in Honolulu. “It was a real jail. Metal doors, locked cells, cold air. And they made us do a full strip search. It was really cold. We had to undress completely, including bra and underwear, and even had to squat and spread… it was humiliating and scary.“

Joe Rogan explains to his audience why due process is important and quotes Ben Franklin — "it is better 100 guilty persons should escape than that one innocent person should suffer.” He argues against shipping people to a prison in El Salvador without trial because we think they’re gang members.

My Bluesky feed presents: America is a land of contrasts.

Could someone please explain to me what the Equality Act has to do with women’s toilets? Honestly, I don’t have time to read the 85 page judgment but how can someone else using a loo that I use constitute discrimination against me? It makes no sense to me.

Never forget that the richest man in the world chose to take food from the mouths of the world’s poorest children. Burn in hell.

An absolute must-read from @stevevladeck.bsky.social this morning: “Just before 1:00 a.m., the justices (aggressively) stepped back into the Alien Enemy Act litigation—in a decision suggesting that a majority understands that these are no longer normal circumstances.”

One of the reasons the simplicity of No.10 - the back door; a terraced house with the Chancellor at No.11 next door, is so incredibly important. We have our King, but the man with power must live as a commoner.

Once upon a time, it was possible for the English Parliament to pass a bill condemning a person or group of persons without giving them any right to due process. 1/2

…the rage that drives this endless killing…the ceaseless, relentless, endless rage.

Yep. It’s real.

Seems real then.

Is this real? Was this really put out by the White House press office?

Wow. The International Criminal Court has opened proceedings against Hungary for failing to comply with the Court's request to arrest Benjamin Netanyahu and surrender him to the Court, and invited Hungary to provide submissions by 23 May 2025.
