Day 2 of the first Iberian conference of gender archaeology. What a panel and such great contributions! I’m so grateful to be part of this event. Next step: how do we make people understand that “gender” does not refer necessarily and only to women and enhance engagement?

Catering is something that conferences in Portugal do really well! Feast your eyes on this table full of goodies! 😋

Today I am in #Porto to deliver a talk with my wonderful colleague Sofia Figueiredo-Persson on the I Iberian Conference of Gender Archaeology for which we were invited 💪

Simply this.

Anyone here know people at #HES #HistoricEnvironmentScotland There's several 'phases' of detection, based on health of turves, and some can't be more than a week old given the weather

Was helping my son study German the other day the theme was pets, family, etc. I couldn’t help noticing that in, at least, two occasions sentences about mothers were quite negative and all about how children don’t like their mothers. I felt quite uncomfortable think it’s inappropriate

I’ve been updating the official page and my Facebook, spamming friends with time-lapses of me skipping for my @cancerresearchuk.org skipping challenge!! The last couple of days in a different place but still committed! If you are able, every little helps!! Thank you!!

Bored of hoards (Melsonby etc.) without CONTEXT! Punching holes to chase a strong metal signal is the antithesis of good archaeology www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

I will be at the #ARP2025 conference today with @socantscot.bsky.social to take part in a discussion panel about “Sharing the Past”

Day #2 complete, today with a proper skipping rope thanks to @cancerresearchuk.org ☺️

I signed this yesterday but my surname is not showing up!! Can someone help please? docs.google.com/document/u/0...

The number of EU nationals who live in the UK having trouble to come back home after the introduction of the ETA is worrying...I was lucky coming back, nobody asked me for proof that I live here, but will be going out again next week, and who knows if they'll let me board the plane... 🙄

This month I am fundraising for @cancerresearchuk.org by joining their 100 skips a day in May challenge! I started today, probably not with the best rope, but looking forward to complete it. If this cause means anything to you and if you'd like to donate, every little helps. Thank you!

UK ARCHAEOLOGISTS Please sign this open letter to UK Archaeological associations to urge solidarity with trans archaeologists and action in light of the horrendous EHRC guidance: docs.google.com/document/d/1...

Happy to see hubby back on his research 🤩

I have signed this. Have you? #TransRightsAreHumanRights If you are a non-trans feminist academic, please think about signining in supporting of the trans community

Medieval human genomes from eastern Iberia, featuring treasured colleague @marinasdsilva.bsky.social highlighting the demographic impact of the Reconquista and the persistent of North African ancestry into 17th century.

Looks like a complete outage across the whole of Portugal, possibly also the whole of Spain and there are parts of France, Andorra, maybe Germany and Italy affected too from what I've been reading... interesting times. I would hazard a guess but won't engage with conspiracy theories... 👀

🏺 [NB date is 14th not 13th]

So apparently there's a general power cut over the whole Iberia...

And to add, this has been part of the Hidden Voices project a few of us have been working on @joanavaldez.bsky.social @jeffsanders.bsky.social especially Elliot Knell. Joana will be speaking about it at ARP on 3 May 2025 in Edinburgh @socantscot.bsky.social @archscot.bsky.social

Can you put names to all these faces? These are some of the women I’ll be talking about at my first Presidential Lecture for @royalarchinst.bsky.social on 13 May at @antiquaries.bsky.social - all welcome! (As ever, I may have too many slides 🤣) www.royalarchinst.org/events/2025/... #MosaicMonday

When I was helping write up the Charles Thomas excavations on Iona, we added blurbs on the later careers of the diggers. I found next to nothing available online or print on the amazing Elizabeth Fowler (Burley to 1959), so I'm proud to have contributed to her new Wiki @trowelblazers.bsky.social
