Is it more fun here? I talk and write about film, TV and other cultural (hopefully) good stuff. And I can’t stop watching the news. Come say hi.

Hey, if you’re going to watch the end of the USA as we know it, might as well enjoy (?) an all star cast perform it. Earnest, silly and teetering on scary, Netflix’s Zero Day is well intentioned, maybe thought provoking for some. DeNiro and company make good company throughout.

themovieminute.com/anora/ Re-upping this for no particular reason. Except that Anora has now jumped into the hot spot for the Oscar’s Best Picture award.

themovieminute.com/im-still-here/ Is anyone really safe? That’s the unshakeable takeaway from Walter Salles’s haunting retelling of what happened to one family, living in Brazil in the early 1970’s.

My favorite part of this year’s Grammys so far are the ads for local businesses. Great idea, beautifully done. Hint, hint, Oscars.

Hi friends, if you're a journalist who has been reporting on the LA fires the International Women's Media Foundation is offering a virtual support group session next week and one/time grants up to $1500 if you need funding for gear. iwmf.org for more and if you need more details message me

Taut and eerily thrilling, this retelling of the tragic events of the 1972 Munich Olympics carries lessons that are as urgent today as they were, decades ago. September 5, one of the year’s best, in theaters tomorrow.

themovieminute.com/better-man/ Thought“A Complete Unknown” was too traditional? Well, have I got a movie for you.

Thinking of my LA friends.

Some day, remind me to tell you about the time I sat next to Adrien Brody and his parents at the screening of A Thin Red Line. IYKYK.

Adrien Brody’s work in The Brutalist is awesome, in scope and detail. As is the film. I know it’s long. Watch it anyway.

Words to remember:

I couldn’t look away from Baby Reindeer, but still a bit surprised it won in such a strong category.

Sebastian Stan and Demi Moore winning awards tonight makes me very happy.

Still trying to grasp how one of the world’s most popular novels became a miniseries nobody talked about. (A Gentleman in Moscow, yeah, it exists)

Emilia Perez is audacious. In a most glorious way. Have we ever seen anything like it? Probably not, as there have been very few who even tried to do all that it is.

Conclave takes the Golden Globe for screenplay. Nobody tell Megyn Kelly.

No shade, but why hasn’t Harrison Ford won an acting award? He’s taken home several career achievement honors, but I always felt the quality of his individual performances has been taken for granted.
