My brother just reminded me of this beautiful photo of my mother Jasmine taken by my father. This was from their first year of marriage before kids. His nickname for her was Jazzmouse & they always laughed about this — a private joke they shared. #photography #family #mothers #fathers #whitemice

The next time someone asks me why I miss Montana, I’ll show them this:

Detail of a woodcut of Fire Foxes by Utagawa Hiroshige from 1857. Fire foxes of the rice god Inari gather to worship on New Year’s Eve, their breath turning to foxfire in the cold winter air. The show now on at the British Museum is absolutely beautiful. #Hiroshige #printmaking #BritishMuseum

The new Dark Mountain (volume 27) on bodies is out. This beauty landed as my heartsease also flowered. Another gorgeous, thoughtful book from this wonderful cooperative. My first piece for Dark Mountain, which was on wolf trapping, was published back in in 2014. I’ve since gone on… (1)

Tonight on Wanstead Flats. Am I alone in thinking that this spring has been more lush and magical than usual? Also, perhaps things feel more fragile as we sense the seasons slipping out of their regular grooves. #wansteadflats #sunset #spring #seasons #london #leytonstone

Thanks @fitzcarraldoeds.bsky.social for some amazing book post - by the formidable Claire-Louise Bennett, and @joannapocock.bsky.social whose Surrender was a book I loved in lockdown. Can't wait to take Greyhound's tour of American edgelands.

Look what just arrived! I read Julian Hoffman’s memoir online as a PDF and I am so looking forward to reading it in proper book form! Thank you @elliottandthompson for sending this beautiful book my way. #nonfiction #memoir #greece #julianhoffman #prespa #europe

Life in the 'before times': my brother and one of my sisters in our kitchen. It confounds my daughter that when we were young, we were often bored and had to work our way out of our boredom by finding things to do. (1/2)

For anyone who has yet to discover Christopher Brown's newsletter and his book 'A Natural History of Empty Lots', this is for you. He has also very kindly written a few words about my next book 'Greyhound'. He's well worth a follow! open.substack.com/pub/edgeland...

As a writer, I love being fact-checked and edited. As an editor, I love doing the fact-checking. It's symbiotic. This interview in the @nybooks with Fergus McIntosh, the head research editor at The New Yorker, is brilliant.
