And these are some open-ended questions that we've asked as well: 1) If the time in which you participated in the study was not typical for you, what happened during this time that made it unusual? 2) What are the most notable events, both good and bad, that happened in your life during this time?

We've asked close-ended questions with response categories: (1) Strongly agree to (5) Strongly disagree 1) In general, my participation in the study… a) interfered with my daily life b) made me more aware of my feelings 2) The time in which I participated in the study was typical for me.

Haha totally. These projects can take so long! Here’s one more that is a nice reminder that talking w/ ppl is good when trying to create a scale: psycnet.apa.org/doi/10.1037/...

Yup! I’ve done a lot of scale construction stuff and if I can offer a recommendation— I wish I had done cognitive interviewing to better understand how people were generating their responses. I think it’s underused but so important and helpful!

One on general scale construction stuff that I recommend a lot. I especially love the discussion on generating items that are at the edges of what you think the construct is about as it helps ensure that you’re working with a lot of breadth in ur items psycnet.apa.org/doi/10.1037/...

One in sample size in factor analysis: psycnet.apa.org/doi/10.1037/...

Maybe if you do have the resources collecting up to 1000 ppl would be good? IMO an item pool of 30 is small! Let me dig up some papers!
comment in response to post
Ok cool so 30 is gonna go into a factor analysis? I think there are so many rules of thumb, like sample size depends on communalities w/ a smaller sample being alright with higher communalities. Some folks say a size of 200, 500, 1000. Other ppl recommend up to 20 cases per variable…

Too bad we can’t do a cookie swap! Here’s a vid for Eric Kim’s cookies: youtu.be/4B43W_wXJuY?...

I have not made these cookies but I have made Eric Kim’s gochujang cookies. I really liked them and this seems similar! I just remembered that I have miso in my fridge, so maybe I’ll try making these. (Also, I like this person’s recipes a lot.)
