Thrifting for books is like a treasure hunt, I found The World We Make months ago and I have been searching for book one since and FINALLY found it the other day! I also found Tagging Freedom (with a cool sticker!), and both for less than 6$!!! WINNING❤️ #booksky #thriftingfinds

If you're looking for a tangible thing you can do for Juneteenth that doesnt feel performative. Go to @heymrsbond.com (a BW who is a born and raised lifelong Texan) and send her a VenMo, purchase items for her classroom, or if you are a publisher/know a publisher, pass her info to them.

You know what sucks, when you post something for sale on FB marketplace, get a lot of messages, the first buyer seems very into it and you agree to meet up. You then tell the other potential buyers it’s pending, so they move on, but the first one does a no show, wastes your time, then BLOCKS YOU.

Sewing a new pair of umbrella palazzo pants, and just made the most annoying mistake because I was rushing. 🤦🏻‍♀️ I was overlocking a seam and got the main fabric caught under the blades!😭 Thankfully it’s in a not noticeable area so I can repair it and continue. STOP RUSHING!😂 #sewsky

Let me be clear - plagiarism is a problem for EVERYONE. If one author profits off another author's words, it can happen to anyone. So, yes, you should care. Whether you like the author being stolen from or not, one case sets a precedent. So, do care. Excused theft impacts us all. 📚💙

Did I just finish reading a book that had a gay ghost 🌶️ scene? Yes, I did. And did that book also center Afro-Latine characters who get to unapologetically practice their ancestral spirituality? Yes, yes it did. Go check it out: bookshop.org/a/87137/9781... Full review on TikTok tomorrow!

Sometimes the most random book finds are the best! This was on my TBR shelf for quite a while, but when I picked it up and read the dedication I got that weird tingle that told me this was a special one, it was my name!😂 A dragon who loves books?!? A cute, somewhat cozy read, five stars! #booksky

I lost my phone for NINE DAYS, now I can barely remember I have social media. This is such an odd feeling. On the plus side I read so many books!😂

Terrible things are happening outside. At any time of night and day, poor helpless people are being dragged out of their homes... Families are torn apart; men, women, and children are separated. Children come home from school to find that their parents have disappeared. - Anne Frank, 1943

Billy-Ray Belcourt, Angeline Boulley, Shane Hawk, and Deborah Taffa Jackson have all praised our anthology, available for preorder now! @littlebadger.bsky.social www.torreyhouse.org/product-page...

Here it is, y’all! The official cover for Devil of the Deep, by @falenciajfwrites.bsky.social , featuring art by @blackgirlabsolute.bsky.social! This is a Haitian fantasy about a mermaid, a pirate and a navy caption who have to work together to tackle an underwater cult to save the world.

fam, how many languages can we tell him to fuck off in

Racism in publishing shouldn’t only concern readers. It should concern everyone. Art has a massive impact on our culture & society. So, even if you are not the biggest reader, consider helping us challenge the way publishing is done by subscribing for $5 or $12. Leftunreadbooks.binderybooks.com

Instead of spending another day grieving the way racist authors are using their platforms, consider helping me give Black and brown authors a voice instead. If you can spare $5 a month to invest in our publishing imprint, we will use that money to fight for change. Leftunreadbooks.binderybooks.com

I know this isn’t the way publishing is usually done, but it IS working. And guess what, community will CONTINUE to work. So come be a part of our fight for Black and brown authors. Just $5 or $12 makes a massive difference and helps us do this successfully. 👇🏾 Leftunreadbooks.binderybooks.com

Project complete! My SIL requested a box that hangs on the wall, with hooks to hang her tasbeeh, and a see through door so they can be seen but not get dust on them. It worked out so well I might make one for mine! #adhdcrafting #tasbeeh

Sometimes you plan on one project(hello bathroom ceiling trim, 🤫 maybe tomorrow?) but get distracted by another one of the fifty ideas and plans you have. Then you make a tasbeeh hanging display box for your sister-in-law. 🙃😂 #adhdcrafting

I’ve seen this image for years but one thing it misses is white people don’t empathize with Black people either. To empathize you need to do perspective taking and see things from an angle that is not yours but that of the other regardless of if you agree with them and acknowledge them to 1/

World Central Kitchen has run out of food to serve in Gaza. Its bakery ("recently the last working bakery in Gaza") is out of flour. There are 100,000+ tons of food in staging areas within driving distance of Gaza, and Israel refuses to let them in wck.org/news/gaza-up...

I’m not gonna give you a clever hook or a compelling argument for why I’m sharing my kofi. Our current economy is having an impact on many of us, so y’all already know. If you got it, you got it. If you dont, you don’t. Love y’all. ko-fi.com/michaellaborn

After finishing R. F Kuang’s The Poppy War for the Left Unread book club last month, I immediately had to go find a copy of The Rape of Nanking. I had only a vague idea of the events of the Second Sino-Japanese war, because of the way the US education system focuses so heavily on the war in Europe.

Many of the people who stand with Black & brown folk will only do so if we agree to let them & their interests come first. Our stories are safest in our own hands. Help us grow our publishing community so that we can continue to champion Black & brown authors well. Leftunreadbooks.binderybooks.com

How many times have you sent top secret war plans to the wrong person on an unclassified group chat?

Read Cry, Voidbringer early by requesting it on Netgalley! It‘s an anarchist dark fantasy about a conscripted warrior wrestling through the cost of complicity & what it takes to actually be free. This book is heavy, it is deep and it is going to be THE book of 2025. www.netgalley.com/catalog/book...

HEY MONEY HAVERS: when you see a huge org do something kinda good for once, Eg. Harvard, or a Dem politician, or Human Rights Watch or whatever the fuck, think about how much you want to donate to their "fund" and then donate that to a trans person, a Gazan, an abortion fund, a Black mutual aid org

Book banning is not an “inconvenience”. It’s bigotry. Whether packaged as keeping kids safe from sexual content or removing politically charged material, the intention & practice of removing books from schools and libraries IS to directly undercut freedom.
