Amid tectonic shifts in geopolitics, what is at stake in today’s German federal election? www.theguardian.com/world/2025/f...

A record-high 267❗️Russian drones attacked Ukraine last night. According to Air Force Command, 138 were shot down and 119 more were lost by radars. Kyiv, Dnipro, Odesa, Poltava, and Zaporizhzhia regions were hit. In Kyiv, drone fragments fell in the Hryshko National Botanical Garden.

In just one month, the United States has turned on its friends, and incinerated 80 years of international leadership. All to make the sociopathic man-child look good before the buffoons who support him. @FT not holding back.

What has 3 years of war done to the Ukrainian and Russian economies? www.theguardian.com/world/2025/f...

As the third anniversary of the war approaches, a key question: will Europe step up and underwrite Ukraine’s defence? www.politico.eu/article/eu-w...

Long live the great state of Maine: just watch as the sociopathic ogre tries to bully the Governor, who’s having none of it.

Shameless beyond belief.

This would reduce US defense spending to ~2% of GDP. The irony, of course, is that this comes as the US is demanding that its European NATO allies increase their defense spending to 5% of GDP.

“As Rym Momtaz, an analyst of European security at the Carnegie Endowment, eloquently put it, 80 years after the end of World War II, “Vance called on Germany to get rid of its firewall against neo-Nazis, the heirs to the very political movement 416,800 American soldiers died to defeat.””

Imagine President Roosevelt saying in 1940 that Britain was finished, quoting made up numbers for US aid and then suggesting Churchill was stealing vast sums from the Lend Lease programme. Imagine him using lines - literally - written by Joseph Goebbels. This is the equivalent.

It is increasingly clear that MAGA is a wholly owned subsidiary of Kremlin fascism.

The betrayal of the victim is worse than Munich, 1938. At least Neville Chamberlin was a sincere man, trying to do what he saw as the right thing. In contrast, this malevolent fraudster is acting as the handmaiden of Russian fascism. www.theguardian.com/world/2025/f...

Much discussion about how other European states can defend Ukraine against Russia in the future. Don't forget the reverse: Ukraine defending Europe against Russia.

Europe’s most perilous moment since the 1930s. From last night’s RTE Upfront programme. x.com/RTEOne/statu...

Coming up on RTE One TV at 1035pm: what does Trump’s Foreign policy mean for Europe?

Of course he does.

Lots of folks are in denial about this. It is happening. It is real. It isn’t just Trump abandoning Europe. It is Trump abandoning Europe AND allying with Russia.

Can you think of any other government in the world that would try to secure the release of two brothers accused of serious sexual assault, human trafficking and serial fraud? It is almost unbelievable. But a government led by a convicted felon who sexually assaults women? Entirely on brand.

One of the most ironic things about the current dispensation is that Elon Musk has become a globalist - the biggest amplifier and foghorn of global extremism. @NBCNews lays out his global activism trajectory. www.nbcnews.com/tech/elon-mu...

Nothing to worry about, just an administration official suggesting that the DOJ may prosecute a member of Congress for advising people about their rights. Happening right now. Right in front of us.

This is a time for straight talking. Bravo, Sir John Major. 👏 www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

I will be on @RadioBrendanRTE show @RTERadio1 11-12 this morning to talk about the immense threats now facing Ukraine and Europe as a result of the Trump-Putin alliance. www.theguardian.com/world/2025/f...

Just as it did during the rise of the Nazis a century ago, the New York Times is twisting itself in knots to avoid calling fascists fascists. Germany’s AfD is not a “party that downplays Nazis.” It’s a neo-Nazi party.

Bankers really are the dumbest people on the planet.

The idea that Europe would be excluded from peace talks by the US and Russia is for the birds. Ukraine’s future is Europe’s future. So EU actors need to tell the Americans where they can stick their plans. www.theguardian.com/world/2025/f...

A true test of European democracy “Europe is threatened by a revisionist power that is willing to risk all-out war to achieve its aims of territorial expansion. And once again western democracies will be involved in countering that aggression, whether they like it or not,

The rule of law is - literally- collapsing in the United States as it’s fascist regime really gets to work in democratic institutions.

Unreal. The US government is dumping Asian and African families and children in random countries that they have no connection to. Dumping, not "deporting." Deportation implies the return of a person to their home country. This is treating people like toxic waste. www.cbsnews.com/news/us-depo...

Just despicable and disgraceful. The US government is now indistinguishable from the mafia.

Americans, we love you. But you elected a president who thinks the Russians are your friends and Canadians are your enemies. What did you think would happen? www.espn.com/olympics/hoc...

I'd say the biggest forces "undermining our nation from within" are the fake patriots loudly cheering on these attacks on our country by a hostile foreign government

The real nature of the Trump regime: just as predatory as Putin’s.

MAGA is the handmaiden of Russian imperialism and American self-destruction.

Czechs know all too well—when Europe bows to dictators and betrays its values, whether in Munich or Yalta, the price is always suffering and destruction. @vonderleyen.ec.europa.eu @radek-sikorski.bsky.social

The cheek of this utter fascist, when he serves in a lawless administration rapidly hurtling towards dictatorship. Europeans need to rapidly catch-up with reality: the United States is mutating into an adversary, one that supports Europe’s biggest enemy.

Talk about capturing the zeitgeist in Trump’s America.

My word. The abject racism of it, in full view of the world. Just like the other day when it was a female Afghan reporter, speaking in perfectly comprehensible English.

Friday’s I newspaper is virtually the only one that really captures the gravity of the situation: the US security guarantee to Europe is over and Europeans have to - rapidly - start acting accordingly.

Admirably clear remarks about how Ukraine has continually been under-estimated since the beginning of the war, from Prof Donnacha O’Beachain @DCU on Prime Time.

Europe’s recurring failures to ‘Trump-proof’ itself are coming back to haunt it. No more time for appeasement or dreams of a revival of the rules-based international order. We are now in the hardest of Hobbesian terrain. www.theguardian.com/world/2025/f...

How might Germany’s federal election be impacted by attacks of the kind we saw in Munich today? www.politico.eu/article/muni...

OK. There will be a massive rearmament in Europe. And the simple choice is: as nation states, with the constant possibility of conflicts - or together. I hope that there are some politicians left who have understood the wisdom of a Jean Monnet.

The American Nazis are so emboldened they see themselves in Congress. As Republicans.

Our worst fears of what #Trump would do to #Ukraine are being realised… only Europe can save it now - and itself with it….ohttps://www.cnn.com/2025/02/12/politics/putin-trump-phone-call/index.html

All eyes on Austria’s president, as coalition formation talks hit the skids. www.politico.eu/article/aust...

As much as I can understand the outrage over Hegseth's and Trump's statements: None of this really comes as a surprise, does it? To me, it is a scandal how unprepared we are in Europe for what‘s happening.

A dangerous moment, not just for Ukraine but also the Europe, as Trump will pretend to negotiate in good faith, while continually doing the bidding of the Kremlin. European support for Ukraine is especially important right now.
