🚨🚨🚨🚨 "Wong Kar Wai’s 30-part television epic 'Blossoms Shanghai'...follows the rise of Ah Bao—described as the 'Jay Gatsby of Shanghai'—as he navigates the city’s roaring 1990s economic boom."

Sorry, we're too busy arguing over whether "globalize the intifada" is a call to murder random Jews

There is literally no argument against Zohran Mamdani that is anywhere in the same realm as serial sexual harassment of government employees and then hijacking $60 mil+ of taxpayer dollars to defend yourself and attack the people who tried to hold you accountable.

Ball didn’t touch the floor

Rich pundits paid by billionaires whose yachts have yachts are telling you with a straight face that there’s no way to afford some free city buses to take the poors to their jobs cleaning the yachts.

NYCers, this is really good and quite smart.

These people aren’t afraid Mamdani would be a bad mayor. We have a ridiculous, corrupt, incompetent mayor right now and the city is hanging in OK. They’re declaring all-out war because they’re afraid Mamdani (or Lander) might be a good mayor.

Dip into Google & teleport back to 2018 to remember the collective eye-roll w/which Prudent Pundits & the political class greeted the Abolish Ice movement. Then consider how there's never a "reckoning" in the press or political establishment about the prescience of the left, on any issue.

Worth noting that as masked federal agents (aka Trump's Brownshirts) are running rampant, NYC's sitting mayor is calling for a broad statewide ban on protestors wearing masks in the aftermath of the No Kings demonstrations. Gov. Hochul supports the protest-mask ban. Willing to bet Cuomo does too.

"It is, essentially, identity politics, in the derogatory sense in which critics of identity politics often use the term. The most important thing about Cuomo is who he is against—the left—and what he signals, not what he has done or would do." slate.com/news-and-pol...

Oh man, RIP William Langewiesche. I'm gonna be maudlin & admit he was my journalistic hero, both for the depth of his reporting & esp his prose, which was so strong & clear & austere—stoical & poetic, with every word slotted into place just so & very few adjectives clotting things up. A master.

I don't think I've ever felt more like burning it all down than I have while witnessing the elite project to turn Zohran Mamdani and Brad Lander into scary, incompetent monsters while turning an actual incompetent monster, Andrew Cuomo, into a merely complicated fellow who just made an oopsie.

Highly recommend this (28 min) Louise Nevelson documentary, for those who are into that sort of thing

We haven’t even heard one thing Cuomo *likes* about the city. Contrast that with Brad Lander and Zohran Mamdani who have made the symbols of New York part of their campaigns, from the Cyclone to the Subway.

One of the greatest songs ever written about racist policing/villainous “law & order” regimes, sung by the man who wrote & recorded it 45 years ago, with backing by child street-corner buskers

I facilitated the video feeds to the US networks and Al Jazeera was the only network that had the balls to show the Ferguson protestors being corralled

Just watched LAPD launch tear gas at peaceful protesters live

Remarkable. MSNC: "I want to reiterate this has been 100% peaceful." Seconds later, LA County sheriffs start firing on the crowd. Yet again, "law enforcement" deliberately escalated.

Israel's strike on Iranian nuclear facility is causing chemical and radiological contamination, International Atomic Energy chief Rafael Grossi tells UN Security Council

A friend just texted me from LA that this was happening at the park she was at

Picking radishes is no easy task. Efrén spends 8-10 hrs/day on his knees, picking and sorting the radishes into small bunches to fill dozens of crates a day in CA's Ventura County. He's proud to have worked in America's fields for 49 years. #WeFeedYou

Once again, it seems to me that when a court finds the president is doing something wildly unconstitutional, it is dangerous and unhealthy that we default to “but let him keep doing it until multiple layers of review all agree.”

Masked and unidentified ICE agents lurking near schools and homeless shelters spark fear and confusion in majority-Latino enclaves outside New York.

First Sly, now Brian Wilson, my word. We've endured decades of huff-puffing about BW as a "pop Schubert," a master of harmony/chromaticism, etc. But e.g. "Don't Talk" truly is a wonderment—a totally beautiful creation, w/a melody that creeps, then leaps, over the most surprising sequence of chords

oh crazy, it is as if protests have consistently hurt trump since 2017

Quoth the poet: "It takes enormous time...to innovate the tech that produces a driverless car."

In solidarity with the movement in Los Angeles and elsewhere across the US, we've made Joshua Clover's Riot. Strike. Riot free to download.

uh oh dad's watching CNN again

“A 2010 study that analyzed 40 years of protest coverage in five major newspapers, including The New York Times and The Washington Post, found that the papers depicted protests — even peaceful ones — as nuisances rather than as necessary functions of democracy.”

Just to recap, Trump has taken the extraordinary step of federalizing 2000 member of the California National Guard — over the objections of the state’s governor — in response to a protest that currently involves A FEW DOZEN PEOPLE AT A HOME DEPOT
