Guy who has only seen The Boss Baby but has also read Thomas Mann’s dark retelling of the Faust legend in pre-World War II Germany, DOCTOR FAUSTUS: THE LIFE OF GERMAN COMPOSER ADRIAN LEVERKÜHN is frankly confused about how to give a take on all of this stuff.

1980’s movies where the bad guys are punks / 1980’s movies where the bad guys are blond rich dudes dichotomy

They’re playing THE WRAITH at Bottlerocket in Pittsburgh right now if you want to see the American’s #1 1980’s movie about drag racing aliens slash ghosts

My buddy got a job in the box office of an arthouse theater near the public square where we would all go to loiter and smoke cigarettes, and I ended up seeing a bunch of Peter Greenaway movies, Hal Hartley movies, SLACKER, ROZENCRANTZ & GUILDENSTERN ARE DEAD, etc. Started a bunch of bad habits.

It’s always great to pay your taxes by putting your banking info into a website that was clearly made in Microsoft FrontPage by someone’s brother in law in 2006.

THE EVIL DEAD 2: DEAD BY DAWN (Sam Raimi, 1987)

UHF  (David Cronenberg, 1989) A daydreaming program manager (Weird Al Yankovic) turns his miniscule local television station into a ratings bonanza with the help of a guerilla broadcaster named Dr. Brian O'Blivion (Jack Creley). With Fran Drescher, Michael Richards, James Woods.

“I was never much with computers, sir. Now my wife, she really likes whattaya call… expressive, static type systems. And you know, a funny thing… she said these types were structural, sir, not nominal. So it seems to me you *could* have passed a type check after all. Unless I’ve missed something.”

I’d be a sucker for a local Renaissance faire but instead of olde times it whatever it’s 1980’s straight to video movie industry.

Between 1975 and 2003, script doctor Arthur Viallegio worked in his basement office on over 14,000 scripts to come up with reasons for protagonists to infiltrate martial arts tournaments. At the height of his career often coming up with more than 6 reasons per day. A real legend of old Hollywood.

Feeling like Gene Siskel listening to Roger talk about Benji the Hunted

It is heartening, and not entirely beside the point of the piece, that the comments following this absolutely harrowing and terrifying (and brilliant) scalpel of a story are mostly clever people of good faith talking about ice cream, and how awesome it is.

Fictional band/artist you’d go to see live

That one tab I’ve been preserving in my browser so long I forgot what was in it? Turns out it’s an (inconclusive) Google search for “When does McDonald’s stop serving breakfast”
