Trump authorizes US military to take control of land at US-Mexico border. Order allows armed forces to take ‘direct roll’ in securing southern border, which Trump memo says ‘is under attack.’ (We know border crossings are low.) #MomSky #Voices4Victory www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

Here's an updated look at all Trump's 2nd-term tariffs, accounting for today's exemption for phones & computers The overall US tariff rate is now 25%, down from 29% pre-exemption but still 10x what it was before Trump took office (1/3)

The Trump administration is illegally declaring immigrants dead so they can’t pay taxes:

One thing I wish reporters and others understood is that tariffs are much harder to do away with than they are to impose. Supply chains shift. And even if they’re harming the broader economy, constituencies develop to support them.

The measles epidemic is worsening & so is the misinformation 👇

Minnesota companies confront sky-high tax bills to the US on incoming imports. Today the firm My Cable Mart has to pay tariffs of $170,000. Four days ago, it would have been $18,000. Busy Baby made the decision to abandon $160,000 worth of products in China. www.startribune.com/china-tariff...

Trump just denied North Carolina’s request for FEMA relief from Hurricane Helene, calling it “unwarranted.”

BCBS of Louisiana denied payments for preapproved reconstructive surgery for breat cancer patients...however they made exceptions for the wives of executives. But wait, it gets worse #HealthInsurance #HealthEquity #HealthRights pluralistic.net/2025/04/12/p...

Last fall, Blue Cross got hit with a $421 million verdict after jurors found it defrauded doctors. It was one of the biggest verdicts ever outside a class action - and it revealed the inner workings of how insurers block payments. My latest. www.propublica.org/article/blue...

1. The president put a 90-day pause on some tariffs in response to the dangerous instability that came out of the bond markets. Other tariffs are still in play, especially the ridiculous 104 percent tax on goods from China and the across-the-board 10 percent tax on all other imports.

Clean energy outperforms fossil in the US. It's a trend. thinc.blog/2025/04/12/c...

This is happening in spite of the fact that the president is not in charge of the Smithsonian. It's not an executive branch government agency, rather it's chartered by Congress and under a board of regents created by statute, none of whom are even appointed by the president.

Cost of extending the Trump tax cuts for the rich: $4.6 trillion Cost of cutting corporate tax rate to 15%: $1 trillion Remember this as we hear about "wasteful government spending."

In which I'm given the last word: "Trump is 'transactional about things that might surprise others because they have not been made transactional before, such as permission to go on operating as a large law firm,' said Walter Olson, a senior fellow at the Cato Institute." [Roy Strom, Bloomberg Law]

Trump’s April 2, 2025 tariffs may be one of the greatest acts of self-harm in U.S. economic history, warns Financial Times—damaging households, businesses, and global markets while unraveling the very trade system America helped build.

There is about to be a Healthcare cost apocalypse due to tariffs... Third email from our suppliers this week... "Force Majeure" being used doesn't bode well #PrehospitalSky #EMSsky #EMsky

i have heard from 3x separate manufacturers this week (not even through work, these are friends) that they're shutting down manufacturing due to tariffs.

I think this is one my most important columns from last year, on why any unchecked right-wing regime will seek to eviscerate the practice of science. prospect.org/politics/202...

Earlier this year, employees began to fear bad actors, could target people for punishment by declaring them dead: “Anybody granted the appropriate permissions within Social Security could mark someone as dead, employees had realized, without having to prove their demise in any way” wapo.st/3RKSQQt

Don't overlook this: Trump is leaving Abrego Garcia to rot in a foreign gulag even though the admin can always bring him back and *retry him for deportation in a lawful way.* That they won't do this shows their case against him is nonsense. New piece from me: newrepublic.com/article/1939...

im no gordon gekko or anything but i feel like a stable government that invests in education and infrastructure would be better for business than whatever the fuck is happening now

Oh this is VERY worrying

Trump will next sign executive orders targeting media outlets critical of him with sanctions. Those media outlets will then find out that no big law firm will represent them because either they already made a deal with Trump or they fear he will sanction them. Trump is methodically ending democracy.

even if we throw these people out of power the enduring legacy of Trump is that nobody can ever again trust the US government to keep a promise, and that will come back to bite us over and over again what a shameful thing this is

Per a source, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, who has required that he approve all contracts over certain thresholds personally, has over 5000 review requests on his desk. Apparently he approves around 15/day.

Restoring trust and credibility to the United States will require not just pushing Trump out of power but putting him and all his cronies in prison.

He didn't know about what DOGE was cutting. He didn't know about the Houthi strike in the Signal chat. He doesn't know about the SCOTUS decision on Abrgeo Garcia after 24 hours. It really seems like he has completely outsourced his presidency. He's just the guy who goes on TV.

Our government feels like when Scar took over after Mufasa died. Just a bunch of ecological damage and hyenas running around this mf.

New in PN: Yes, they voted for this "Perhaps the most damning commentary about the US electorate and media is that Trump never even tried to conceal his malicious intentions and deranged policy positions."

RFK Jr. stunned FDA staff Friday with a 40-minute tirade featuring a disability slur, the “deep state” conspiracy theory, and accusations that agency employees were becoming a “sock puppet” for the industries they regulate.

Dr Peter Marks, "Vaccines have been studied very extensively for being potentially associated with autism" "That theory has been debunked" "One study in Denmark, over 600,000 children. It shows that if anything, children had a lower rate of autism than unvaccinated children"

“The damage has been done,” said George Saravelos, the head of foreign exchange research at Deutsche Bank. “The market is reassessing the structural attractiveness of the dollar as the world’s global reserve currency and is undergoing a process of rapid de-dollarisation.”

I used to select Dem primary candidates based on policy. Now I will aggressively try to destroy any Dem who says "we need to look forward not backward" and fervently support anyone who says "I will see these motherfuckers prosecuted and jailed if it's the last thing I do."

California defies Trump order to certify that all school districts have eliminated DEI

A new Alien Registration Rule, effective today, states any foreign national needs to carry a copy of their passport and most recent I-94 at all times and inform DHS of a change of address within 10 days of moving or be at risk of a fine up to $5k and 30 days in prison: www.mintz.com/insights-cen...

Some personal news: the Department of Homeland Security has given me, an immigration lawyer born in Newton, Massachusetts, seven days to leave the U.S. Does anyone know if you can get Italian citizenship through great-grandparents?

BREAKING from @science.org: The Trump admin is seeking to kill nearly all climate research at NOAA, its climate science agency. Its near-final budget proposal would end all NOAA research labs, academic institutes, and regional climate centers. And it wants to fully end the NOAA Research division.

Welp, got an answer to this question: Apparently the answer is no tariffs are being collected. Trump broke the system www.cnbc.com/2025/04/11/c...
