I’ve see a lot of bad action movies & bad comic book movies but #CaptainAmericaBraveNewWorld is not one of them. It’s a rock solid entry into the MCU Canon that does a good job showing off Sam Wilson’s superpower of being able to engender empathy with anyone. An underrated power in this day & age.

Current #Severence theory: Lumon is experimenting with cloning (Gemma/Miss Casey/ goats), Mark’s job is to subconsciously reconstruct Gemma’s mind (MDR is like one of those online personality tests) and Miss Wong is a not-yet-matured clone of Gemma (why there’s a kid working on the Severed Floor).

#WolfMan is a micro-scale family tragedy, and all the best #werewolf movies are tragedies at their core. It’s the opposite of the grand, operatic #Nosferatu but both films manage to be exactly what they wanted to be. Check them both out if you want to appreciate the broad spectrum of horror movies.

Every time I watch #Dune (1 & 2) the theme of prophecy and saviors being a double-edged sword - especially when revenge is a factor - becomes richer and deeper. The way that’s reflected in various character pairings is just as impressive as the technical achievement of the films.

#CreatureCommandos feels like a proof-of-concept for the new DCU from @jamesgunn.bsky.social that displays the general recipe of 2 cups of comedy + 1/2 a stick of action + a powdering of tragedy & pathos. Rewatching #TheMartian for the first time since it came out in 2015. There’s nothing especially profound or groundbreaking about it, but it’s a damn good meat and potatoes movie (pun entirely intended). Definitely won’t wait another 10 years before revisiting it again.

Much like how Denis Villeneuve used lessons from his earlier movies to make Dune (Parts 1 and 2) into something great, Robert Eggers uses every trick in his bag that he picked up from his previous films for #Nosferatu. It looks gorgeous and nightmarish as each frame drips with well-earned dread.

Lucked out and got this #TheTerminator 4K Steelbook at retail when it briefly came back in-stock. This is as close to a perfect Sci-Fi / Action movie that’s ever been made. Every second of every scene just flat-out rocks. It’s clear Cameron couldn’t afford to waste a shot & is all the better for it.

#EventHorizon still f*cks hard. Grabs you by the back of the head right away, plunges you face first into things, and doesn’t let go for 90 minutes. Sure, some of the special effects and the weird techno music over the credits are hugely dated, but it’s still Sci Fi / Horror at a very high level.

Rewatched #Superman2 and some things really hold up (Reeves & Kidder are iconic, Stamp is a delight) some things don’t (bizarre new powers, amnesia kiss, too much slapstick). 3rd Act is one long, special effects-y fight scene. Superhero movies have been copying that ever since, for better and worse.
