Walkable cities. Climate. Making stuff. Archaeology. Fungi. Music. Kent. London. General leftiness. All this and more. (he/they) 2020s Twitter turned me into more of a lurker than a poster, but maybe that'll change here. #Vegan #RejoinEU

i firmly believe one of the main messages we should be telling our students about this whole thing is that generative ‘AI’ by definition will *never* have an original idea, and if you use it, neither will *you*

Presumed liability shifts the burden of proof to the insurance company in a collision, and is intended to compensate vulnerable road users more quickly and effectively. petition.parliament.uk/petitions/70...

EVs won't solve this

This is real. I just turned it off. They track you everywhere, because they can.

I don't like to share road death stories on here, but today I'm sorely tempted. There were two very close to me that are being reported in the local press, one cyclist and one pedestrian, and I'm just aghast at how lightly the sentencing treats manslaughter by car.

Friends, a petition I've created to go to Parliament for the protection of Trans Healthcare in the UK has just gone live. If you are in the United Kingdom, please sign and share this. If you are not in the United Kingdom, please share it. #Trans #LGBTQ #UK petition.parliament.uk/petitions/70...

the only reliable AI

There are around 2 million #autistic people in the UK. We don't go around making sexually inappropriate comments and taking our clothes off around strangers as some sort of power play. Stop using autism as a get out of jail free card for bad behaviour. It demonises and harms real autistic people.

This is legendary from @sarahjeong.bsky.social. I appreciate her drunkenly walking the world through a coup attempt and then writing it up. www.theverge.com/24312920/mar...

1.35 million people a year, 3.7K a day, are killed world-wide in traffic crashes, with another 20-50 million a year seriously injured. Car crashes are the #1 global killer of young people. Via @who.int Imagine if we reconsidered our infrastructure design, speed limits, EVERYTHING, to save them.

Remember that footage of gamekeepers killing a Hen Harrier on a grouse moor? Seen pictures of moors being set alight in recent weeks? It’s time to ban driven grouse shooting. Please sign @wildjustice.bsky.social’s petition: petition.parliament.uk/petitions/70...

Oxfordshire's road casualties are down 22.4% compared to just 3.1% in the wider South East! We've gone 20mph across a huge amount of the county, which will have been a major contributing factor. This is a huge policy success for the County Council IMO (1/2) www.oxfordmail.co.uk/news/2473824...

This is the biggest change that the government could make that would make the roads safer for pedestrians, cyclists, horse riders and other vulnerable users. This is one of the reasons Dutch roads are significantly safer beyond the infrastructure. If you’re in the UK, please sign the petition.

The fact that UCC hid a 3000-year-old mummy under the floorboards of a lecture theatre on a campus where two and a half tonnes of uranium rods were being stored in a basement nearby and DIDN'T end up with a zombie-pharaoh apocalypse is both a mystery and endlessly disappointing

"[S]ocieties suffer from shifting baselines, the idea that what we see now is normal, as there’s no collective memory of the biodiversity that thrived even in the recent past. The collections within these temples are reminders of how much has changed". An interesting read on a subject new to me.

Copies of this poster appearing in Manchester this weekend. Worth a read. Applicable also to other British cities I am sure. Too many vested interests have talked up the emerging urban model.

In case you didn't know - apols to those who've seen these before! - I also make #chocolate copies of artefacts. Often, I only make something once, just for challenge. My rules - must be 100% edible & no internal/external props or supports. Here's some I made earlier, as they say... #Archaeology

For everyone, post a banger that isn't in English: youtu.be/Mse4VwPI8zY?...

Record company design committee: As you can see from the listener feedback graph, people didn't really get what The London American Legend Part 1 was all about when they looked at the cover. This time can you dial up the American a couple of notches? Cover artist: I got you fam

the credibility of this administration on human rights is so low that nobody on any side took this election-eve ultimatum seriously, or was surprised they lied about their intentions

You know you're at a doom gig when the drummer has five giant cymbals and the merch stand is selling grinders
