In a very late Sunday evening news release, Prime Minister Mark Carney announces the Digital Services Tax is dead - following US President Donald Trump's announcement the US would retaliate against the new tax. www.canada.ca/en/departmen...

Happening right now, until 8pm B.A. Johnson at the North End Block Party. #hamont

Another good headline - if the opportunity presents itself to make the headline more interesting than usual. www.therecord.com/news/waterlo...

This is a good headline Victoria mayor and fire chief extinguish their conflict uk.news.yahoo.com/victoria-may...

What part of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms guarentees the right to free expresssion - especially signs at public municipal meetings - are Ontario's mayors unclear about? "A sign on her laptop asking the province to stop strong mayor powers. McIsaac asked her to take her sign down."

Hamilton City Centre's exterior is being prepared for a giant mural project. The Work in Progress Festival 2025 begins Thursday: July 3-6 and during Supercrawl September 11-14. I'm excited to see what the mural will be. #HamOnt MORE INFO: www.instagram.com/reel/DKUubxz...

This is Jen and Jeffrey. Jeffery Ng started the Gore Park Community Outreach Line when he saw people freezing and starving during pandemic. Now he, Jen and 100 other volunteers rescue and distribute food, hot meals and fresh produce for over 1,000 people a week. #Hamont #Onpoli #Ontario #CanadaSky 🇨🇦

I’ve spent a lot of time lately trying to understand the capacity of the federal government - particularly the bureaucracy - to meet the moment and implement Mark Carney’s agenda, and what could be done to improve it. Here’s (some of) what I came away with. www.theglobeandmail.com/business/art...

There are still a few tickets remaining for tonight's documentary viewing at the Playhouse Cinema The infamous Pink Floyd concert changed Hamilton for decades -- it is why the City forbid outdoor stadium concerts for nearly 40 years playhousecinema.ca/event/alan-c...

I set a goal of clearing my backlog of open tabs, not yet published drafts, and unanswered emails by the end of day on Tuesday. Thus far, I've opened around 20 more tabs in my browser, and started three new drafts. 😅

Note: As detailed in numerous decisions by Ontario's Information and Privacy Commissioner, City's privacy officer does not respond to emails or phone calls. The City recently stated the privacy and FOI office remains severely impacted by the Feb '24 cybersecurity failure. No timeline for recovery

I have informed the City of Hamilton of a serious privacy matter - it is not a breach because technically the City is republishing documents that are 'public' under the Open Courts Principle. I'll put it this way, I would never publish this kind of information online. #yhmcc

Burlington Mayor Marianne Meed Ward is going to need to find a new City Manager. After barely over a year in the role, Hassaan Basit is leaving for a provincial appointment role. news.ontario.ca/en/release/1...

It's been ten months, but finally the 11-foot-8+8 bridge has a snack. [For those who've joined me in the past year, the 11-foot-8 bridge was my fav YouTube for years. Then they lifted the bridge.] www.youtube.com/watch?v=MJ4t...

Sorted out my custom apps. :)

How the day is going for Hamilton City Council... [And I'm working from home this morning of all days to be working from home.]

The GO Train signal issue "west of Aldershot" has now cancelled the Niagara-bound train. GO Alerts do not include if the trainset will end up out of position for the morning start of service. If you take the train out of Hamilton in the morning, make sure to check GO alerts when you awake. #HamOnt

GO Transit states train service remains *suspended to/from West Harbour* due to a signal issue. There is an express bus from Burlington GO to West Harbour. Shuttle West Harbour to Aldershot. I'll say, it is an improvement that replacement shuttles from Burlington are express. (1/2)

MAJOR GO train issues in/out of Hamilton right now NO SERVICE at West Harbour The 19:06 arrival at the Hunter Street GO Centre is over 45 minutes behind schedule Signal issues Shuttle buses between West Harbour - Aldershot - Burlington in effect. #HamOnt www.gotransit.com/en/service-u...

In a Special Council Ratification meeting, which was immediately following today's Special Planning Committee meeting, Council has formally denied both urban boundary expansion applications in the White Church Road East, and Upper Stoney Creek Elfrida lands. #yhmcc #HamOnt

The Special City Council meeting to ratify the two urban boundary expansion denials, passed this afternoon at a Special Planning Committee meeting, is now underway. They are going into closed session for legal advice. #yhmcc #HamOnt Live on YouTube: www.youtube.com/watch?v=DcOy...

Hamilton City Council's Planning Committee votes *unanimously* to deny an urban boundary expansion application for the Elfrida lands. 1,209 hectare in Upper Stoney Creek #yhmcc #HamOnt

Around a dozen people are in the Council Chambers watching the meeting (which is occurring in Room 264 without any members of the public in the room). It does feel tiring to watch on the screen and a few people are trying to stretch out more comfortably. #yhmcc

Council is now debating the merits of the 1,209 hectare Elfrida Lands urban boundary expansion application. They may enter into closed session to discuss legal strategy. #yhmcc Watch live: www.youtube.com/watch?v=8WNn...

Councillor questions to City planning and growth management staff is continuing. The ultimately outcome is known: Council will voted against both of the urban boundary expansion applications. Makes for an anti-climatic day at City Hall. #yhmcc

The striking water workers have not returned to City Hall following the lunch recess. Council will continue meeting in Room 264. The public can watch online or on the monitors inside Council Chambers. #yhmcc

Staff recommendation is denial for the White Church application UHOPA-25-004. Director and Senior Advisor – Strategic Growth Initiatives Dave Heyworth says the application is 'inconsistent' with Provincial Planning Statement and Urban Hamilton Official Plan. #yhmcc
