Trump's latest: forcing people to pay debts they don't owe. If you're not super rich and think Donald is on your side, what more do you need to know to realize you were conned? Below from the National Consumer Law Center;

Wouldn't it be nice if every news outlet that covered the Bukele Oval Office meeting noted: District court wrote: Abrego Garcia "has never been charged with or convicted of any crime."⤵️ Fourth Circuit: The government presented "NO EVIDENCE" of MS-13 affiliation. Abandoned argument before court. ⤵️

Trump to Bukele: "Home-growns are next. The home-growns. You gotta build about five more places. It's not big enough."

Trump's tariffs made it hard for American manufacturing firms to import critical minerals, so China responded by making it harder.

The only way to create lasting change is to bring people along, and create a broad coalition. Trump hasn't bothered to do this hard work, and folks believe tariffs will hurt more than they'll help and this is particularly true when thinking of their own situation (today.yougov.com/politics/art... )

"And so what you have is companies all around the country and around the world having to literally rewrite their business plans day by day, and sometimes several times in the course of a day. "

Terrific public finance exam question: Is it more efficient to put tariffs on an industry -- effectively forcing U.S. consumers to subsidize it, while also distorting the price signal -- than to subsidize it directly using taxpayer funds?

In most economic eras, I don't need to begin my commentary with "If the clown show continues..." But here we are.

Note to fellow journos: If only one "economist" agrees w Trump tariffs—as evidenced by fact that this particular "economist" is now being interviewed and cited everywhere as only "expert" willing to publicly defend them—consider confirming that he's actually an "economist." Check CVs, for example.

Here's one of the many clarifying passages in the White House (notionally GSA) letter. It demands Harvard set up a system of political commissars who will enforce hiring and admissions set asides for MAGA luminaries and high school red hats.

No one should be above the law, most especially the President. Ignoring a Supreme Court ruling to facilitate Kilmar Abrego Garcia's return isn't just cruel; it's unconstitutional. They're saying the quiet part aloud — if they get away with it now, they'll do it to anyone.

Independent of Hassett's abysmal forecasting record thus far (Dow 36,000 etc), why would anyone ever make a prediction of 100% chance of recession? Even without the trade wars, average annual chance of recession is ~15%

wow if only somebody had thought to sign free trade agreements with South Korea and Australia before Donald J Trump

🙃

lol Commerce posted today that they’re looking into tariffs on the **machinery used to make semiconductors** This will just make it **harder** to make semiconductors in the US. It is so unbelievably stupid that I cannot put it into words.

Law enforcement wearing masks, again, even as one of the Trump administration conditions for universities is that no-one can wear a mask that disrupts their surveillance.

Alright, I think people knew of the tariff pause and traded it beforehand. You can see before Trump posted "buy" on Truth Social, traders opened $QQQ $TQQQ and $SPY calls RIGHT BEFORE THE NEWS, someone opened $SPY 509 calls, expiring TODAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Those calls are up 2100% in one hour.
