I grew up around airplanes. My dad flew us to family gatherings in his Beech Baron. I landed my first touch-and-go in a Cessna 152 at the age of 17. Over decades of flights, I never felt safer than when in the hands of air traffic control. I wonder if tomorrow I’ll finally stop crying.

Had a manager last year who’d been a college athlete and so always referred to code sprints in terms of weightlifting. Finishing tickets was “getting reps.” Ticket estimation was “big lift? Small lift?” Today at diff company I nearly referred to an item that will take a lot of planning as “leg day.”

As someone who grew up online, it does depress me to see how many people genuinely can’t fathom why someone would want to be on social media beyond reasons linked to building clout so you can make money. It’s fun to talk to interesting people from around the world. That’s always been my reason.

Yeah, leetcode is worthless. Akin to interviewing a civil engineer by presenting them with popsicle sticks and telling them to build a bridge. It insults both parties and accomplishes nothing. Because it’s a video game, that children can learn and master.

The CEO at my new company is such a cool and humble guy. he contributes to open source so prolifically, he has code in one of the dependencies I chose for our project, and didn’t even say anything until I saw the code & DM’d him to ask about it. Then he was like “oh it was just a few lines” lol
