"There's only one 'e' in 'heroin'..." Famously the film Ant McPartlin and Jill Halfpenny saw on a date one evening after shooting #BykerGrove, I thought it was class: uplifting, funny and beautifully-written. Great work from Clement, La Frenais and Doyle. www.imdb.com/title/tt0101...

In #MyDaysWithErrolFlynn, his stunt double, #BusterWiles, mentions Errol on pretty much every third/fourth page. In #MyWickedWickedWays, Flynn's memoir, he mentions Wiles only twice... Take a look at the post below and help @latereviewer.bsky.social decide on their next read. #WorldBookDay

12 years and one day since my colleague sent her son to school dressed as The Lone Ranger. (She got her dates wrong and was a day early.) #WorldBookDay #WorldBookDay2025 #OriginatedOnRadioAnyway

I often wonder if the driver of the car in the background at 2:19 ever found out they were briefly in #TheAdventuresOfRobinHood (1938)... youtube.com/watch?v=eHl-...

"You can't keep a love like ours in an envelope..." The OK musical remake of #TheShopAroundTheCorner (1940) begins well but starts to drag when the violin silliness takes over and I thought throughout how much I'd rather be watching the original film. www.imdb.com/title/tt0041...

"War's the only language men listen to..." An important period in history handled with sensitivity by everyone involved. Carey Mulligan was typically excellent and Abi Morgan's screenplay a respectful tribute to the thousands of women who fought so hard. www.imdb.com/title/tt3077...

"You've been drinking and I refuse to talk to you while you're in this condition!" Joan Crawford drives away her housekeeper, cousin and husband with her lies and manipulative behaviour, blaming everything on once catching her dad with another woman. www.imdb.com/title/tt0042...

"And how long have you been in love with my wife, Mr. Ibbetson?" So-so first fifty minutes but then it changes gear for the next thirty-five, becoming one of the most astounding, beautiful, painful bits of cinema I've ever seen. I'm amazed, I really am. www.imdb.com/title/tt0026...

"A party is to women what a battlefield is to men..." Affairs, alcoholism, attempted murder and an automobile smash-up - plus a suicide in a barn - this Joan Crawford soap opera has something for everyone. The writer wasn't too big on families, I gather. www.imdb.com/title/tt0048...

"Behind this door is death..." Produced by John Wayne, this pointless paean to human stupidity and animal cruelty had me rooting for the bulls throughout. Even if I didn't find its themes so abhorrent, I'd still struggle to praise it. Leaden and dull. www.imdb.com/title/tt0043...

If you fancy some Sunday morning reading...

"Doctor, doctor, I keep hearing jazz in my head, can't stop talking about the American Civil War and have a habit of slowly holding sepia photographs of days gone by up to my face, getting closer and closer to my eyes as if I'm zooming in on them." "Sounds like you belong in the (Ken) Burns Unit."

Black Legion (1937), showing at Albert Hall in Barkers Pool, Sheffield. Destroyed by fire that same year, it's now the site of the former John Lewis building.

"Why didn't you tell me I was in love with you?" Well-directed, solid story, genius performers and good musical numbers but it didn't really gel for me. I can't even say why, I just wasn't hugely invested and my attention wandered. A long 104 minutes. www.imdb.com/title/tt0034...

Morecambe & Wise narrate this utterly brilliant profile of Laurel & Hardy which everyone should watch. www.imdb.com/title/tt1578...

"You once said we belong because we both hated life..." I can almost forgive Gary Cooper and Carole Lombard for lying to Shirley Temple but stashing a stolen necklace down the neck of Grumpy the teddy bear was one of the cruelest moments of 1930s cinema. www.imdb.com/title/tt0025...

Framed mementoes of one of the biggest honours of my life. #TheAdventuresOfRobinHood #ArtOfAction

"You're the prettiest manager in baseball..." I was smiling all the way through because of its charm, humour and sheer uplifting vibes - not to mention the insanely brilliant musical numbers. A perfect example of a Golden Age Hollywood team creating gold. www.imdb.com/title/tt0041...

"All the great themes have been used up, turned into theme parks..." By day: Christian Slater is a bespectacled geek who keeps his head down at school. By night: He doesn't wear glasses and has a subversive pirate radio show that #TheKids love. Stupid. www.imdb.com/title/tt0100...

"The worst part of being old is rememberin' when you was young..." Ex- #GoneWithTheWind stuntman Richard Farnsworth is simply incredible in his final film. The kindness, sadness and wisdom in his eyes and the quiet pain behind his line delivery. Beautiful. www.imdb.com/title/tt0166...

No idea what a crack commando unit jailed in 1972 for a crime they didn't commit but who promptly escaped from a maximum security stockade to the Los Angeles underground have to do with South Yorkshire Pensions Authority but I'm all ears.

The loud guy in The Draughtsman on Doncaster Station is labouring under the misapprehension that everyone in here wants to hear his 'funny' story.
