I wrote about how Project 2025 helped lay the groundwork for Trump's early attacks on worker safety, which will likely accelerate. P2025 proposed that safety regulations be treated as "negotiable" and called for exemptions to OSHA. Also, Trump's pick to head OSHA is a former Amazon & UPS exec.

at the risk of stating the obvious, if a left-wing president started doing things like using eminent domain to enact widespread land reform and expropriating monopolist firms that essentially operate as utilities, you wouldn't see mainstream headlines about "bold actions" and "provocation."

This from Baker epitomizes the NYT house style for news analysis pieces that I alternately refer to as “dipshit on purpose” or “professional dipshit”

In terms of ahistorical fantasies, the current right-wing delusion that Palestinian armed factions wouldn't continue to wage the national struggle from neighboring countries after facing ethnic cleansing ranks pretty high

NEW: Russ Vought, a Project 2025 architect and top Trump official, is carrying out a long-running goal of right-wing media by dismantling the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau Me for @mmfa.bsky.social

how interesting.

NEW: Project 2025 used DEI as a crowbar to open up attacks on the entire working class. Trump is following through, decimating the federal workforce on the back of anti-DEI rhetoric. Me for @mmfa.bsky.social

A certain segment of the vaguely left-ish media world has become increasing curious (and in some cases sympathetic) to Bannon. It's a very bad development that speaks to Bannon's ability to tailor his message to the audience and relies on total ignorance about his podcast's role in the ecosystem

A question for liberals right now is that if Trump used military force to attempt to ethnically cleanse Palestinians from Gaza, would they be justified in engaging in armed resistance

NEW: At least four of Trump's anti-immigration executive orders go further than Project 2025's already extreme proposals. Me for @mmfa.bsky.social

DoD building up Gitmo capacity like this is an absolutely blaring red siren. Impossible to overstate the dangers of ramping up detention there under any circumstances whatsoever www.nytimes.com/2025/02/03/u...

Claremont Institute senior fellow Jeremy Carl boasted that Trump's executive orders against DEI and affirmative action have implemented all the recommendations he laid out in his book, "The Unprotected Class," which rails against "anti-white racism." angrywhitemen.org/2025/01/30/j...

The Democrats are positioning themselves as the more effective stewards of the most repressive elements of the US government. It is a moral abomination and a political dead end

Cool vibes on Real America's Voice right now. Militias "are not law enforcement...but it doesn't mean we can't assist them...[with] road closures and directing traffic." References Floyd uprisings in 2020 as a tax on law enforcement. [Interviewee was only ID'ed as "Dan" as the segment closed out]

Noting again that Mark Krikorian of the nativist think tank the Center for Immigration Studies floated this exact idea in an essay in Compact just days ago. Somewhat surprisingly he didn't propose Gitmo, but his colleague Todd Bensman wanted to send Haitians there last March

Fucking Gitmo

The fact that there is precedent for holding migrants at Gitmo does nothing to limit how horrifying this announcement is. Also -- knowing full well how awful the conditions have been every time the US has done this -- the idea of Trump's people overseeing this kind of thing is really really bad

One of the notable aspects of this absolute train-wreck is that Russ Vought -- who Leavitt all but acknowledged yesterday was behind this scheme -- is supposed to be a super high-level operator. Whoops!

New expected Trump EO that gives the feds the power to investigate and deport "resident aliens" -- including those on student visas -- for their pro-Palestine organizing has long been a goal of right-wing media and think tanks

tapping the sign

NEW: Project 2025 architect Russ Vought's fingerprints are all over Trump's federal funding freeze. Vought and his think tank have been arguing for years that the president can unilaterally refuse to spend money allocated by Congress (the so-called impoundment power). It's one of his main goals

NEW: Project 2025 called for Trump to investigate and potentially prosecute local officials who resisted his mass deportation plans. A Trump executive order and DOJ memo show that he's following through. Me for @mmfa.bsky.social www.mediamatters.org/project-2025...

Mark Krikorian of the nativist think tank the Center for Immigration Studies, wrote an op-ed for Compact last week proposing a "Remain in Mongolia" policy, where migrants are sent to a country they're not originally from. Yesterday, CBS reported the Trump admin is considering it with El Salvador

MAGA think tank and Project 2025 partner The Claremont Institute published a blog on Nov 8 under the headline: "Mr. President, Deputize Your Local Sheriffs" www.mediamatters.org/project-2025...

This line from an NYT editorial from two days ago is just blatantly Orientalist and racist

One of Trump's key strengths is branding the existing repressive state apparatus as a new thing he can take credit for. "We're finally getting tough on the border!" My man have you ever gone back to the Clinton years and also all the years since then?

It’s overdetermined why the street response to Trump is decidedly more muted this time but one among many factors is Dem mayors overseeing curfews in 2020 and liberal-coded institutions suppressing anti-genocide organizing for a year and a half

AP headline / Project 2025's policybook, p 553

It is not possible to counter a reactionary movement by reifying the sanctity of police and elevating their status as uniquely undeserving victims of violence during Trump’s first term

1/ We're not even 73 hrs away from the new regime & the opposition party which just spent YEARS telling us they were the only hope of stopping Trump's mass deportations just VOLUNTARILY handed him and every Republican state AG a powerful new set of tools to detain, deport, & oppress non-citizens
