After 104 days of being unjustly detained for his advocacy for Palestinian rights, Mahmoud Khalil is finally home with his wife and newborn son.

This is exactly the right tone when privileged people suffer minor or temporary consequences standing up for powerless people. It’s still about the powerless people. ICE is Gestapo trash.

Anyway, I’m rewatching all the Bourne movies today.

"Abolish ICE" needs to be the moderate Democratic position going forward. The progressive position is, "Send everyone who works for ICE to the Hague."

People credit The Simpsons for predicting our current moment but fail to mention that Kevin Smith posited a world that was off-kilter, askew, and gets no credit for predicting our current crisis 🤔

The Trump admin: “We are going to defund major universities due to the presence of campus protestors against Israeli war crimes, based on disingenuous claims that they are antisemitic.” The Trump admin: “Also, we think that universities should hire Holocaust deniers to ensure ideological diversity.”

In this same vein, I am Jewish and do not want anyone to be censored/detained/retaliated against for expressing anti-Israel/pro-Palestine opinions in my name. I don’t want people to lose fundamental rights of expression and freedom under the guise of “fighting antisemitism.”

We condemn in the strongest possible terms this act of violence against participants in a walk for Israeli hostages still in Gaza.

I actually agree with this. The game is rigged, such that at a time when Leo Frank truthers are in the federal govt, any Jew who speaks up about antisemitism gets conscripted involuntarily into Trumpist politics that American Jews overwhelmingly oppose. But that itself is evidence of antisemitism.

When left-wing American Jews comment on a rise in antisemitism in the US - without ever mentioning Israel or attempting to scapegoat Palestinian solidarity activism - here are some trends over the course of the decade since Trump first ran for President that they are likely referring to:

We know not only that most American Jews do not support this administration’s use of antisemitism to justify its xenophobic policies, but that it is wrong and frankly dangerous to conflate Israel with all Jews.

People have covered the reactionary tendencies here extensively, but as best as I can tell, a lot of the "rationalist community" is also just people incapable of basic critical thought being wowed by it like it's street magic. open.substack.com/pub/astralco...

Seriously though, that’s my in-brain soundtrack to 2025. A 2000s era Trance breakbeat blaring as what I imagine Dean Acheson’s voice sounds like intones: “Mistake” 🎶 “Mistake”🎶 “Mistake” “Vietnam was worse than immoral - it was a mistake” ABSOLUTE MASSIVE BEAT DROP

“Hi ai, I can’t be arsed to read up on it but did Dean Acheson actually say that one banger quote about Vietnam and, if so, did he also ever do anything that, in the ultimate balance of things, would make him seem less cool to me if I knew anything else about him?” - Me, in the horrible future.

Too many left-wingers think saying, "Anti-Zionism is not antisemitism" implies, "No anti-Zionists are antisemitic." And too many right-wingers think saying, "Anti-Zionism is always antisemitism" implies, "Zionists are definitionally not anti-semitic."
