Canada's government has refused to issue an emergency order to help the highly endangered southern resident orca population, shared with the U.S. Only 73 whales remain. #biodiversity @ainsliecruickshank.bsky.social has the story for @thenarwhal.ca thenarwhal.ca/feds-refuse-...

Just got a phone call from a Gen Z friend who had to use a record player in her classroom but couldn’t figure out where to put the needle (the confusion was both that it starts on the outside not the inside, and that you have to lower the cue lever)

Can confirm @ghost.org is great. We are running buildingslack.com on it and I also switched my personal site to the platform. Great tool run by great people doing it for the right reasons

Flow was wonderful. Watched it with three generations of family from 7 to 77 and everyone was mesmerized 🐈‍⬛

“I think that by retaining one’s childhood love of such things as trees, fishes, butterflies and — to return to my first instance — toads, one makes a peaceful and decent future a little more probable…”

What we’re witnessing in America is what happens when disordered discourse captures a political party, then the state itself. The Republican Party was the first to fall - abandoning truth for conspiracy, ideology for grievance, and policy for performative outrage.

New: All 50 states have now introduced right to repair legislation. A really amazing milestone for a grassroots movement. Wisconsin just became the last state to do it: www.404media.co/all-50-state...

For the US to side with Russia and North Korea to oppose a UN resolution condemning the illegal invasion of Ukraine defies all common sense and adds insult to the countless injuries suffered by the brave Ukrainian people. edition.cnn.com/2025/02/24/p...

New post up: buildingslack.com/the-master-p... This is a table setting for the next set of posts that will cover the middle third of the company’s history. This is when things started to get hard.

Legitimately great way to protest. Be mischievous, expose the absurdity, point out that the emperor has no clothes. Take away their power by mocking it.

Made a keepsake box for my son, who picked maple, walnut, ash and cherry boards because he was curious how they’d look together

Showed this to my 7 year old today after he asked about the size of the solar system in relation to our galaxy. Still the most memorable demonstration of scale in the universe m.youtube.com/watch?v=0fKB...

Holy smokes The Brutalist has a 3h35m runtime. This does not fit into my daytime matinee before picking up the kids schedule

An old friend reminded me today that I put on Black Mirror when we hung out one time and it still gives her nightmares more than a decade later It was the episode White Bear. I feel bad but also kind of proud?

Just discovered that Spotify on desktop has EQ and streaming quality settings (that are defaulted to Flat and Low, respectively) that I didn't know about 😩 Everything sounds so much better now

I think Americans, blessed with relatively stable government for a long time, assume there is someone, some adult, who will step in and make things right before the President does anything REALLY bad. There’s not.

New post up about writing our company values at Slack buildingslack.com/values/. It’s a good one! Building Slack is our newsletter where @alirayl.bsky.social and I are writing down the story of Slack from beginning to end. It’s free and we have 1000+ subscribers. See you there ✌️

Had the best whisky of my life last night.

Was gifted this beautiful book of Japanese joinery techniques by @dennispi.bsky.social. It’s a treasure trove.

My iPhone 12 Pro is still perfect for me. But the leather case had fallen apart after 5 years. Managed to find a reseller with some new old stock Apple leather cases ✨

Progressive western democratic leaders need to pay attention to one thing right now: Trump is doing what he said he would do, quickly. This is a major reason people come out to vote for him. Abhorrent as the promises are, he follows through on them.
