Welp.

If you thought it was bad, this is how it gets worse.

Yep. 'Cause that'll do it for sure. 🙄

Speaking of unique lexicon, “sweeping?”

New from me on @democracydocket.com. Happy Presidents’ Day.

When a white student asked me why Black graduations exist, I told them that just because something isn’t made for you, meant for you, or about you doesn’t mean you’re being harmed/discriminated against. Rather than thinking of why you aren’t in a space, think of why others want a space of their own.

Important read. Don’t let this get buried in everything else happening.

I am really outdone. The Maryland National Guard cannot celebrate Frederick Douglass, the state’s native son and perhaps the greatest American this nation ever produced, because he’s Black and his chosen birthday happened to fall during Black History Month. (Ask me why he had to choose is b-day)

I’m in desperate need of variation on my timeline. It can’t be all…those guys. Anyone have any recommended follows for literature, music, or arts? Anything you find fascinating. You know, things that might spark joy in this clusterf…fun times?

Scientists fear that Trump’s DEI crackdown will reshape who can participate in science for years to come, drain creativity, limit the scope of projects, and lead to worse research. “It is common sense that to have the best science, we need the broadest, most inclusive environment."

What absolute cowardice.

Today, the President of the United States talked about magnets lifting planes up and his Press Secretary said that it would be “more majestic if these Palestinians could be moved to safer areas.” Can’t wait to revisit this post in a year.

A perfect snow day delivery. Huge congrats, @otroedgargomez.bsky.social! 🎉 Can’t wait to dive in!

The little DOGE-ies truly don’t know what they don’t know.

As a reminder, Rubio was confirmed 99-0. I appreciate my senator owning this and speaking about it. But in terms of this cabinet, the damage is done with more to come.

i just can't get over the absolute loser energy of these guys

How I sorely miss Colorado political shenanigans.

Major kudos to Howard County Exec Calvin Ball for this local response to the dismantling of the federal government and its effect on the area workforce.

Yeah. And it’s interesting to see those who never addressed it before address it now. Is it opportunism or it using your platform for solidarity? Is it going to be too little, too late? Will you pivot from being an ally to an advocate and accomplice?

More slash and burn: the Federal Executive Institute is being eliminated. This effectively kills a fundamental and crucial program for leadership development and training in our government. www.whitehouse.gov/presidential...

Yeah, I’m always going to call it the Gulf of Mexico. This is ridiculous.

The title is so apropos. Good read if you want to better understand the newly capped indirect rates the NIH allows on grants to universities and the destructive ripple effect it will have.

Yay for the SZA appearance. Hard to imagine a Kendrick Super Bowl Halftime without “All the Stars.”

We’re doing this!!! STAND UP FOR SCIENCE! 🧪 March 7th- I’ll be heading to DC!

Hope those poles are greased, #Philly.

I don’t think I’ve ever cared less about a Super Bowl, precisely for this reason. (But, still, #FlyEaglesFly)

For scholars of US public administration: worth noting that 2025 marks *twenty years* since the editors of Public Administration Review @pareview.bsky.social expressed a commitment to promoting democratic values. Because, you know, China.

Yikes.

Reading @jimswift.bsky.social’s Overtime newsletter from The Bulwark this morning and seeing “Trump/Musk Administration” in the headline. That’s it. We’ve normalized it because it’s true. Hell, some people would put Musk first.

Scientists and journalists need to figure out right quick how to explain to the average person how a massive change in research indirects will impact the medical care they and their children get (eg at the local children’s hospital), the education their children will get, the price of tuition, etc.

I'm not sure how to explain how financially devastating this will be for universities. This is, literally, catastrophic for universities and for science in the United States.
