I used to be strongly pro nuclear disarmament, I'm not anymore. If Ukraine had kept their nukes, Russia would not have invaded, and if Canada had nukes they wouldn't need to worry about the orange idiot threatening to conquer them. At least for now, nukes are tyrant proofing, which is deeply sad.

We went to our 2nd protest this year today, there were many hundreds (but I think well less than 1,000) there, and all the usual chants, + one I didn’t expect, but completely loved: "Delay, Deny, Depose” – that’s very much the energy we all need for this.

If you have a Democrat Rep in Congress, I urge you to call them and ask that they not vote for any budget or to raise the debt ceiling until 45 & Musk stops their illegal power grabs. At this point, I see funding the government as funding evil.

I'm specifically not advocating this, but the less horrible Republicans in Congress claim they're voting for horrible cabinet appointments because they're getting death threats, so maybe they need to start getting death threats from the other side - sadly, that's where the US is now...

I'm honestly overjoyed to see California's government taking a look at secession. As long as it includes the entire West Coast, I'm 100% for it and would love for Oregon to leave the US. Sadly, the only way this could actually work is if the CA government seizes nukes: www.sos.ca.gov/administrati...

At this point I have no idea if the fasc currently destroying our government & nation are looking to create Nazi Germany 2.0 or simply wish to destroy the US economy, loot everything not nailed down, and leave.

While much news today is terrible, I was very pleased to see that the new (and both terrible-sounding and fascy-sounding Star Trek film Section 31 has a rotten tomatoes score of 24%, making only 1 point higher than the worst ST film (Final Frontier), which I refer to as Kirk nukes god

I prefer long form posting, but I can do that here if I post links to my dreamwidth posts. Here's one about my thought on what's happening in the US and how messed up it is: heron61.dreamwidth.org/1590296.html

Things are terrible in the US, but at least there's joy and good things elsewhere on the planet: www.theguardian.com/world/2025/j...

Dear gods, every story I hear about Neil Gaiman makes him seem even worse, and this article proves his monstrousness definitely appears in his work (or at absolute minimum in his novel The Ocean At The End Of The Lane), a novel I am pleased not to have read: www.mikerindersblog.org/neil-gaimans...

I just read an excellent article about Joss Whedon, and he's a fairly shitty person who also changed media for the better, and (vividly unlike Gaiman) is not a monster, the contrast between the two is exceedingly clear. www.vulture.com/article/joss...

Wow, the article about Neil Gaiman is horrifying. Joss Whedon and Warren Ellis are objectively crappy human beings who all good people should shun, but AFAIK they both stopped short of sexual assault. Gaiman didn't, he's a monstrous rapist and should be in prison. www.vulture.com/article/neil...

I'm pleases that most people on FB are here, but also dissatisfied with the character limit. Given that Dreamwidth is tiny, is there any long form social media that's not full of nazis, and that people actually use? I still miss the early 00s, before video and Twitter replaced long-form writing.

I presume all of you, especially in the US, have seen a near endless series of articles about various (mostly nonsense) “crises in masculinity”. I found an article that actually explains a (astonishingly stupid) reason fewer men are going to college. celestemdavis.substack.com/p/why-boys-d...

Hi, I'm John Snead a lefty democratic socialist game designer, and I hope to see more of my dreamwidth and FB friends/followers here.
