Several hundred New Yorkers rallied today in Washington Sq and then marched down Broadway to City Hall. They demanded that Gov. Kathy Hochul remove Mayor Eric Adams after he cut a deal w/ the Trump admin to have his corruption charges dropped in return for aiding Trump's mass deportation campaign.

The mid-terms can't come soon enough.

Fightin' words from @yuhline.bsky.social, the runner-up to Dan Goldman in 2022.

My multi-millionaire Congressmember @danielsgoldman.dg4ny.co is unable to meet this moment. We not only can but must be clear about both denouncing Trump's belief in his right to be king while also pushing back against all the terrible things Trump is doing as he abuses his power.

60 years after Malcolm X's assassination we continue to learn more. indypendent.org/2025/02/on-t...

Zionism is a racist ideology that dehumanizes the other. This story is a textbook case: A Miami Jewish man shoots and wounds two Israeli tourists from his car because he thinks they are Arabs. Later, the two Israelis go on social media chanting "Death to Arabs!" Smh. www.youtube.com/watch?v=T3yI...

The Indy's John Teufel explains how former NY Gov & mayoral-candidate-in-waiting Andrew Cuomo got thousands of elderly nursing homes patients killed in the pandemic's early days. He then covered it up while taking a $5 million book advance to write about leadership. indypendent.org/2025/02/andr...

A thing I wish I could teach people is that the vast majority of very rich people are deeply stupid. They did not get where they are because of ingenuity or talent. They got there because of compound interest on hereditary wealth and being tax cheats.

Hmm. DOGE trying to present like one of those anarchist collectives that insists they have no formal leaders while the real leaders hang back in the shadows.

The muscle memory is still there.

Last one out the door, please hit the lights.

There's a huge void to be filled as the Democratic Party establishment craters at the beginning of Trump's second term.

Please read this thread.

In my cover story for the February Indypendent, I try to parse out the signals from the noise coming out of the White House by taking the long view of what "big government" has accomplished over the past century and why Trump and the right-wing are so intent on dismantling it.

Check it out! Here's the front page from the February Indypendent which hit the streets earlier this week.

Today in the New York Times --communal leadership at its most powerful – prominent figures & trusted voices refusing Trump-Netanyahu with clarity and unusual unity in a loving show of solidarity with Palestinians. #saynotoethniccleansing www.saynotoethniccleansing.org

If Trump wants to go in full troll mode, he could make Adams the ambassador to Turkey.

Get 'em!

The learned helplessness of Democratic leaders is a wonder to behold. You never would have heard Republican leaders say something like this when they faced Democratic trifectas in 2009 and 2021.

1/3: Earlier today @repdangoldman.bsky.social endorsed @zellnor.bsky.social for NYC mayor. While most media questions were about the mayoral horse race, I pressed pressed Goldman on his support for Israel’s genocidal assault on Gaza if the cease fire broke down.

These people want to repeal the 20th Century.

Hardly anyone has noted that the crash outside Reagan National occurred at an airport named for a prez who fired thousands of air traffic controllers, broke their union and sent its leaders to jail. If the gov't can't fill understaffed air control towers, offer workers a better deal. Problem fixed!

Going back to Reagan's 1981 inaugural speech, decades of conservative denigrating of "big government" finds its apotheosis in the Trump administration telling the nation's air traffic controllers to resign en masse on the day before the worst aviation accident in 15 years.

Support your hard-working local news outlets while you still have them.

Former South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem shows up in the Bronx for a new episode of Deportation Theater.

Conservatives have worked since Reagan to discredit "big government." Now at the apogee of their power, they are 1.) Reminding a normally apathetic public why an active government is essential and 2.) Stoking a broad public backlash similar to the blowback against their 2022 anti-abortion victory.

Trump heading for the FAFO stage of his presidency faster than I thought possible.

Unions could have accomplished so much more in the Biden years. We'll see if they have the gumption to not bend the knee to Trump for whatever illusory safety or benefits that bring.
