In light of @lucidmotors.bsky.social CEO Peter Rawlinson stepping down, this seems promising. Though I'm not holding my breath until I see it in person + understand the real schedule. Hope it doesn't mean an unveil 18-24 months before the first #EV rolls off the production lines.

Per Cox Automotive, January set a record for #EV market share in the U.S. Electric vehicles accounted for 9.1% of total new-vehicle sales, a new high.

Interesting #EV news from the U.K. Long odds, but aren't they always? The best time to launch a new company is often when prospects in the chosen field seem dark + discouraging.

I had no idea!

OK, European + EU car friends: Is this trailer ball + electrical socket a recognizable, known spec for a 1960s or 1970s car?

"Ridding the govt of #EV infrastructure could be particularly costly, said a former senior White House climate official, who asked not to be named for fear of reprisal. The govt’s EVs + charging equipment are 'basically brand new,' they said." GSA rarely sheds assets before their usful life ends.

Every major UK newspaper - left, right, broadsheet, tabloid - is running a front page campaign against copyright carveouts for AI training. I can't remember the last time any political cause had such broad support, let alone one so anti-big tech and so economically consequential.

Good lord. Dusty Springfield was born Mary Isobel Catherine Bernadette O'Brien. That explains a lot.

Props to the @nysthruway.bsky.social Authority for using one of its programmable alert signs on northbound I-87 this week, between Exits 20 + 21, for the following message. "No #EV Charger at New Baltimore - Use Welcome Center" Didn't get a photo, it came up too fast, but public svc at its finest.

I've been waiting for this one: Looks like Jeep is assessing whether to ditch an #EV version of its next-generation Compass compact crossover. That'll *clearly* help Stellantis compete with entries like Equinox EV, Mach-E, Ioniq 5 + Model Y. Per @motorauthority.bsky.social covering Automotive News.

"The sky above the port was the colour of television, tuned to a dead channel."

Reminder to automotive followers that I'm not only #EV topics: I have a side gig, @temptingfatetours.bsky.social ... here on Bluesky + on Instagram. "Road trips. In odd cars of dubious reliability, usually decades old, often British. They run at the start of the trip. What could possibly go wrong?"

Hey Detroit... "Want another reason automotive CEOs lose sleep? Chinese car companies develop new cars in half the time as Western peers thanks to employee work schedules—even for white-collar engineers—called “996.” That’s shorthand for shifts that start at 9 am + end at 9 pm + are 6 days a week."

Further note on #Tesla #EV charger siting vs EA's: To get to the supermarket parking lot here, you traverse a RR level crossing that gets 30+ trains a day, some > 200 cars. People who live here are used to waiting 5-10 mins for the trains to pass. Tesla drivers needing a charge? Maybe not so much?

I was startled to find my tiny Hudson Valley town is getting an Electrify America #EV fast-charging station, behind the Starbucks within sight of the Interstate exit. (The Sbux is only a couple of years old.) NOW, I find we're getting a #Tesla Supercharger site too. Less well sited ... by a Dunks.

Third post in a thread that sets it up. Corey has now moved from Bloomberg New Energy Finance to ZETA ... but you should, as always, follow his perspectives.

Stellantis is calling its self-driving system, which it says is Level 3 (hands off, eyes off), "AutoDrive". Oh my. Watch the video. Discuss.

I'm a day late in posting this, but the 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 (now a broader range of #EV models) continues to impress. Yesterday, I posted the Voelk + Voelcker Show, with @tomvoelk.bsky.social graciously including me in his video. Today, you get my words + pix, courtesy of Charged EVs magazine.

It's the Voelk + Voelcker Show! Again !!

Matt Farah aka @thesmokingtire.bsky.social did what I dream of doing: bought a used Taycan Cross Turismo #EV for a fraction of its cost new. Before this article, it was a topic of many debates among auto journos at events. They're a crazy good value right now. Which I probably shouldn't point out...

First time using the Rivian Adventure Network for #EV charging. It's 14 deg F in the Adirondacks; range on the Ford Mustang Mach-E suffers a bit from that + the steady climb. Onwards to the charging desert of northern Vermont ...

No question that owning an #EV in N America today is easiest if you can charge at home, usually overnight. But what if you can't? My new explainer for @caranddriver.bsky.social digs into the options—with charging at work being one many users forget. Upside: More public charging appears every week.

Join me and @johnvoelcker.bsky.social as we check out the freshened 2025 @Hyundai IONIQ 5. We chuck the new XRT around off road too. You've got to wait until Weds for details though... #Automotive
