Finally, the correct tariff formula (from Private Eye)

This is really good.

"Because if we only believe in trauma when it suits our politics, then we don’t really believe in it at all. "[That] means holding a mirror up to those who only discover their compassion when the defendant wears the right flag or shares the right Facebook post." - @pimlicat.bsky.social

The Trump administration have only ever used coercive instruments to try to force Ukraine to capitulate - because an actual negotiation would require Russia to make concessions, and they demonstrably do not want that. But yet again, they over-estimated the US's coercive power.

💥 A youth mobility scheme with EU could be back on the table. The scheme would allow 18 to 35-year-old to live and work in the EU for up to two years - giving young people back opportunities snatched from them by Brexit.

Interesting to read from the US an increasing number of serious critiques of Trump's tariff onslaught, generally around the lack of understanding of modern economies, lack of preparation, offending potential allies, and confused goals around the administration.

Column, on the spectacularly bad-faith/ideologically contorted White House demands the "free speech protection" be a factor in UK-US trade talks www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

"His lawyer told judges Robinson has suffered an 'evident decline in his mental health' and cannot 'regulate his emotions' because of PTSD." Amazing how quickly and cynically they always turn to the very defences that they ridicule from *actual refugees with PTSD*. news.sky.com/story/tommy-...

Email to Keir Starmer….. Dear Mr Starmer With America, Russia and China aligned against us, in what deluded world is it best to keep us out of the CU, SM or indeed the EU? Kind regards

Starmer told UK must repeal hate speech laws to protect LGBT+ people or lose Trump trade deal. Plus sacrifice the NHS, food and environmental standards, worker rights. Who governs? No thank you. Don't want to be the 51st state, or US slaves. Better to join the EU and Single Market.

During acute phase of the COVID pandemic, there were dozens of occasions when a journalist would ask me if a new claim was reasonable, I’d explain why it had major flaws (as would others), and they wouldn’t cover it. Was this ‘censorship’ - or just journalists doing their job as they should? 1/

Nope. Can’t see why a 21st century superpower would need a defence tech development team.

On the campaign trail today, Farage told a group of voters in the North that he understood the worries of the steelworkers because he used to be “in the metals business”. That would be the London Metals Exchange in the city where he worked as a commodities trader. (h/t Tom Baldwin)

🚨🚨 In another unfathomable and disgusting betrayal of #Ukraine, #US blocks joint G7 statement denouncing the horrible Russian Sumy strike. /1 kyivindependent.com/us-blocks-g7...

Air pollution has dropped significantly in #Paris in the last 15 years as a result of a deliberate strategy. Mayor @annehidalgo.bsky.social’s leadership has traded car space for green space, safe bike space, kid space.. and traded pollution for people. Good trade.

Bukele has already returned migrants to the U.S. because they were from Central America or they were women—migrants the Trump admin had unilaterally declared as “criminals.” This is all a joke to them. It’s truly sick.

It absolutely must be called Lettuce Speak!

The Trump admin underestimates Ukraine's sovereign resolve. Witkoff can regurgitate Kremlin's demands until the cows come home, but like Ru, he has no easy way of implementing them. @oxanashevel.bsky.social and I wrote about the dilemma Trump is facing: www.justsecurity.org/109084/putin...

🚨🚨 @edwardluce.bsky.social is rightly not mincing his words here. These words should not be used lightly but the fact that the US Government intentionally ignores a ruling of its highest court suggests not only a "constitutional crisis" but a "constitutional breakdown" of governance in the US. /1

Security expert @mikeclarke2020s.bsky.social: "This idea that somehow the Ukrainians got themselves invaded is just bizarre. Nobody knew about the coming attack except Putin. He lied to everyone... So what [Zelenskyy] was expected to negotiate about is a mystery known only to President Trump." ~AA

Arron Banks is standing for West of England mayor. We need to ask about his visits to the Russian embassy and his tweets parroting Russian propaganda. Who is Banks loyal to, the UK or Putin? Fight Fascism. Vote for democracy in the local elections. #Vote4Democracy

The US has blocked G7 statement to condemn Russia for its Palm Sunday missile attack on Sumy, which killed at least 35 and injured 100+, including children. Telling allies it wouldn't sign because it is "working to preserve the space to negotiate peace". Mhm. ~AA www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

New research from @ieefa-northamerica.bsky.social calls blue hydrogen a “lose-lose proposition” for the environment and for taxpayers. @cleanaircatf.bsky.social and others beg to differ. @kbrigham.bsky.social dives into the debate below ⬇️

It's not that China is inherently the stronger or more resilient economy. China has been preparing for an economic showdown with the US for 10 years. Meanwhile, the US government didn't know what it's opening salvo would be two hours before Trump fired it.

“There’s a lot of misplaced optimism about [a UK-US] deal. It’s inconceivable that the Trump team do a deal that doesn’t involve a big concession from us... If you want a quick win on UK growth, reducing trade barriers with Europe looks like an absolute no-brainer.” ~AA inews.co.uk/news/politic...

🚨🚨 WOW: UK is prepared to retain some regulatory alignment with the EU and accept #CJEU supervision over a deal to cut checks on imports of foods & agricultural products- in a significant a move on the promised EU-UK #reset five years after #Brexit.🧵 www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

Apart from genuflecting to this US regime to achieve deal, watchout for the UK Govt’s position on: - Digital Sales Tax - Copyright protection for creatives - Online Security laws - Food standards for US imports - Increased role for US tech in NHS #FBPE www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

Fascism is happening in front of your eyes. You can call it that or not - I don't give a fuck - but that is what it is.

I've been a journalist for 25+ years and I'm not sure I've witnessed as much wilful (and v likely coordinated) disinformation from certain corners of the UK media than over past few days. Sun, Mail and Telegraph have been truly awful - and seemingly shameless www.theguardian.com/business/202...

Good. One doesn’t need to love or respect Harvard to be glad when a power center decides to fight fascism instead of submit.

Trump is defying a 9-0 Supreme Court ruling against him. The Constitutional Crisis is no longer some abstract idea, it's right here staring us in the face.

A record increase in the global average atmospheric CO2 in 2024, 3.75 parts per million (previous record was 2.96ppm). The global average is more representative than Mauna Loa, as it is the average of numerous stations located around the world. gml.noaa.gov/ccgg/trends/... 1/

🚨🚨 #Trump's disgusting betrayal of #Ukraine and #Zelenskyy is perhaps the starkest example of the US completely abandoning leadership for security on the European continent. But his betrayal goes clearly deeper than this. /1

Finding in favour of @stevebraysodem.bsky.social, judge said: “He is virtually accused of being ‘fixated’ – he’s entitled to be. How he chooses to express those views is for him. Lampooning the gov't through satire is a long tradition in this country.” 👏 ~AA www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2025...

🇬🇧🤝🇪🇺 Former UK ambassador Sir Kim Darroch urges Starmer’s Govt to prioritise rebuilding EU ties over chasing a volatile US trade deal under Trump. With tariff rollercoaster eroding trust, it would be foolhardy to jump into bed with Trump! inews.co.uk/news/politic...

The most horrendous example of this so far. It's never Putin's fault if you're Donald Trump.

68% It's getting damn close to the magic 70% that even the most cautious claim is the tipping point.

Trump is a liar but a very transparent liar. His attack on CBS and 60 minutes is an attempt to silence them and the reason is not the bullshit he’s spilling, it’s to keep them from continuing to air their interview with Zelenskyy which damns the Trump regime.

What people must understand is that Putin is only accelerating his attacks on Ukrainian civilians because he is completely confident that Trump has his back. The US could make Russia pay for these attacks, but Putin knows that Trump never will. It’s a sign of (perverse) trust.
