Emulating @jon and doing a bit of #CrossBorderRail, from Frankfurt (am Main) 🇩🇪 to Kortrijk 🇧🇪. IFFA2025 was quite something, next SIXFOLD project first workshop on theme of data in food processing!

“Two returns to Poland, please" Matthew Engel writes on Monday 14 November 1994 about taking the train to Hel https://www.theguardian.com/uk/1994/nov/14/poland.europe

Rough outline of the events in my #CrossBorderRail finale project is now up https://crossborderrail.trainsforeurope.eu/projects/crossborderrail-finale-summer-2025/crossborderrail-finale-2025-events/ And the new merchandise is ready as well […] [Original post on gruene.social]

Some more #CrossBorderRail preparation work done here today, including finalising the logo for the project that starts in June As I am spending too much time on these trains, the logo this time is a MÁV Bzmot / ČD 810 railbus https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C4%8CSD_Class_M_152.0

Applications for 2026 #CrossBorderRail paths in #Sweden now published: BahnTouristikExpress Peberholmen (DK)-Malmö (SE) 3 times weekly from April, probably part of SBB Zürich-Copenhagen-Malmö. Vy Peberholmen (DK) - Kornsjø (NO) twice daily from September SJ Daily Kornsjø (NO)-Malmö Arr Malmö […]

Finland sets new record publishing rail timetables 900 years in advance! 😃 https://www.vr.fi/en/timetables

Picking up Michael Cramer's report "Missing Links" was what started my #CrossBorderRail project Re-reading what I wrote I'm struck by 3 things 1) The idea remains as valid as ever 2) Some of Cramer's route choices were odd 3) My analysis before visiting wasn't too bad! […]

Is this just some sort of error in Scotty, or is the Bratislava hl.st. - Devínska Nová Ves - Marchegg - Wien Hbf #CrossBorderRail route actually going to re-open on 6th July this year? […] [Original post on gruene.social]

Hmm. Subotica - Novi Sad 🇷🇸 to open “by July 7th” 🤔 Are we supposed to trust it this time? If 7th *is* the launch I’ll go as on 6th I’m in Hungary anyway on #CrossBorderRail https://www.ekapija.com/en/news/5150735/novi-sad-subotica-railroad-by-july-7

SNCF Connect 11:21 TER Train “full” So you can’t book it It’s quite busy, but there are 8 seats free in this carriage alone And for 14 minutes I’d stand anyway TER SNCF and @12train can’t sell it either, ticket machines can 🤷‍♂️

Problem delivering 🎁 in crowded cities? Put more PEOPLE on your 🚋, not 🎁 on your trams Because 🎁 don't have 🦶 Quick Take on my blog 👇 https://jonworth.eu/cant-deliver-packages-in-crowded-cities-put-more-err-passengers-on-your-trams/

Ah And meanwhile the rail trade press is covering ridiculous pod gadgetbahn ideas 🤦‍♂️ https://www.railwaygazette.com/long-reads/multimodality-carrying-parcels-on-tram-tracks/68711.article Original site https://fragile.global/projects/cargo No. We need tram tracks to *transport people* and […]

Some feel good green influencers have latched onto the idea that solar panels could be installed between the tracks of active railway lines, and there's pilot project in 🇨🇭 But it's a really bad idea. Here's why 👇 […] [Original post on gruene.social]

You get more than you bargained for at the Vide Maison in Chassignelles! #catsofmastodon

Some classic old bikes at Emmaus Planay today. Berlin hipsters would love these. Frames too small for my own use though and I’m not keen enough to do these up to re-sell!

Long, detailed and correct piece from Tagesschau about the problems with hydrogen trains in Germany https://www.tagesschau.de/wirtschaft/energie/wasserstoff-zuege-probleme-100.html

And I have just had to block someone for their persistent stupidity about solar panels between railway lines If you - with no railway knowledge and no willingness to engage with the practical issues here - keeps digging in, then you're a tiresome bore and I will block you out of my timeline […]

Where to install solar panels on railways - on station roofs - on depot roofs - alongside tracks - on frames above car parks in stations - (maybe?) on frames above train lines Where NOT to install solar panels on railways - between the active tracks This is total nonsense […]

This idea - found via @fj and @temptoetiam - to install solar panels between train tracks strikes me as ridiculous Railway tracks are grimy. Things fall off trains, like melting snow mixed with grit in winter. You can't incline the panels. How are you going to keep the panels clean enough? […]

Siemens saying here how good the Renfe doco app is 🤔 It doesn’t have Iryo or OUIGO in it. And I’m not sure FGC is in it either Only operator-independent services of this sort work

“Passengers want their first and last mile sorted” I hear from rail people very often, including here at Antwerp Rail School this morning But in most European cities it’s quite easy - pitch up and buy a 🚌 🚃 🚊 ticket The bit that’s a mess is the long distance 🚆 part if it’s #CrossBorderRail

Today I'm presenting #CrossBorderRail at Antwerp Rail School (but at Infrabel Academy Beekkant, Brussels) - these are my slides (PDF, KEY, PPTX) https://bit.ly/CrossBorderRailAntwerpRailSchool No live stream though, it's a closed event But as ever: if you'd like me to explain my […]

Ah I’m getting treated to that legendary Eurostar premium service! Train Paris Nord to Liège is +20, delay of incoming train Where am I told this? Eurostar app ❌ Email ❌ Push notification ❌ SNCF Connect app ❌ DB Navigator ❌ Screen in station ✅ So WHY NOT SHARE THE DATA? 😡

Meeting with the Reschenbahn campaigners 🇦🇹🇨🇭🇮🇹 https://reschenbahn.com/ now sorted - 2nd July during #CrossBorderRail A meeting with activists in Košice 🇸🇰 is also in planning Here’s the map of the project (layers show the dates) […]

Experimenting with Mapy CZ / Mapy COM this morning, at the suggestion of @marekfort @kupfers This looks like the map solution I need OK, it's not open source, but it heavily relies on OpenStreetMap, the way maps render is excellent, the web interface is […] [Original post on gruene.social]
