And I am an ally. If you are too, let the world know.

It was a huge pleasure to talk about our @econovoau.bsky.social fieldwork & research at the Waterberg Research Convention today. Wonderful to meet many scientists, conservation practitioners & interested reserve owners from the Waterberg. Thanks to the WRSC for their invaluable work & organization!

What he's announcing is a concentration camp. A deeply illegal, unconstitutional, anti-human rights atrocity. Anyone who supports this is complicit. Anyone in any federal service, military or otherwise, is morally obligated to refuse to carry out any orders related to this deeply criminal act.

Where are all the field studies? This ⬇️ important but rather depressing paper describes how conducting, & crucially initiating, field studies is becoming harder & rarer. A short 🧵 (and a call for more fieldwork) www.cell.com/trends/ecolo...

Understanding and predicting #climatechange is all about the #Earth's #energybalance, right?🌎 Correct! But someone has to do all the hard work... #Plants and #microbes are doing their part, but we often overlook the important role of #animals as moderators🐛🦌 www.frontiersin.org/journals/env...

Awesome PhD opportunity with a great team!

Thanks to all signatories and sygnatory-bodies! We've reached circa 2000 signatures, and sent the letter to all MEPs and key decisionmakers at the Commission. It is still possible to sign our open letter! So if you haven't signed yet, please do so. Please send around, also in your language. Thanks!

We have taught the science & methods of functional traits using #OpenScience on 7 courses (so far) to ~180 different students from 86 institutions & 30 countries. One of the most rewarding efforts I have been a part of. #PFTC alumni? ping @hilaryrosed.bsky.social to be added go.bsky.app/4T8pBZr

An important review - The ecology of plant extinctions - "Recent warm-edge extirpations demonstrate the growing impact of anthropogenic climate change & show that predictions of massive climate-driven extinctions later this century are plausible" www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti... 🌾🌎🧪🌐

Non-White scientists appear on fewer editorial boards, spend more time under review, and receive fewer citations. www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/...

Hydropower impacts on riverine biodiversity. A paper recently out in Nature Reviews - Earth and Environment with @fengzhihe.bsky.social @scjaehnig.bsky.social jcsvenning.bsky.social and others! A good one-stop shop for understanding the impacts of hydropower dams. www.nature.com/articles/s43...

Where did our lost rhinos roam? Distribution charts based on bone finds (individual dots) and habitat suitability for the four fluffy rhinos of late Pleistocene. These are of course approximate and might not include all obscure finds. #Sciart

Because of popular demand we have now a number II Conservation Science starter pack since the first one is full since a while 🙃. If you are not yet on the first one, pass me message. I preferentially add folks with clear conservation research focus in profile and skeets. go.bsky.app/9RdjmCX

Great to have everyone here :). A quick intro: I’m a broadly interested ecologist, doing my PhD at @econovoau.bsky.social . I’m investigating how large mammals and global change impact biodiversity and ecosystem functioning, using both field-based approaches and large-scale remote sensing analyses.

Scientists: Please join on an open letter to EU policymakers calling them to reinstate the Green Deal. Link to the letter here: docs.google.com/document/d/1... Link to sign can be found therein. Please spread the word among scientists, to obtain enough signatories asap. Thanks!

I'd like to encourage folks to publish their code. Not only does it make studies more transparent and reproducible, but it also increases citation rates! onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10....
