Alperen Sengun had a costly turnover, Amen Thompson was ejected and Damian Lillard tried his usual heroics against the Rockets. But the Rockets withstood a frenzied final few seconds and got back on track with a 100-97 win over the Bucks: www.houstonchronicle.com/sports/rocke...

Houston Rockets hold off Minnesota Timberwolves in another game that feels like a budding rivalry www.houstonchronicle.com/sports/rocke...

Details here from Ime Udoka's pregame comments explaining the decision to bring Jabari Smith Jr. off the bench and on Fred VanVleet's recovery progress: www.houstonchronicle.com/sports/rocke...

Jabari Smith Jr. will come off the bench tonight for the Rockets. Tari Eason will start instead of FVV. Udoka said it’s to ease Smith back in and take advantage of having Eason in first half of a b2b. Jabari said yesterday that he’d accept a bench role. www.houstonchronicle.com/sports/rocke...

OK, here's a crazy idea to improve the NBA All-Star game. Play basketball.

Yeah, a good way to get players to take an exhibition more seriously is to have a comedian loudly mock them during the game.

Rockets Amen Thompson and Reed Sheppard face off in the second NBA Rising Stars game tonight – and you can expect plenty of trash talk. The two teammates traded friendly jabs about the competition: www.houstonchronicle.com/sports/rocke... I’ll have more from Chase Center tonight.

Rockets use dominant fourth quarter to quell Kevin Durant and beat the Suns, 119-11 www.houstonchronicle.com/sports/rocke...

Ime Udoka didn't have an update on Alperen Sengun's status postgame after Sengun exited the game with a back spasm. The Rockets don't play the next two days so they'll see how Sengun heals up. www.houstonchronicle.com/sports/rocke...

“Sometimes they’re ugly,” Ime Udoka said after the shorthanded Rockets salvaged a win over the Raptors. Sunday was, but the Rockets fought through adversity and ended their losing streak www.houstonchronicle.com/sports/rocke...

Like so many others, I called Hubie a few times over the years for help on stories. He was exactly as you would imagine, incredibly generous with his time and expertise.

ABC/ESPN did a wonderful job on the richly deserved tribute to Hubie Brown. Hubie's love for the game and for teaching it never faded. Few ever better showed appreciation for its past, while celebrating the present.

Midwest nice was not the prevailing attitude inside Target Center. A hostile, drama-filled Western Conference clash ended with the Timberwolves handing the Rockets their fifth straight loss, 127-114. www.houstonchronicle.com/sports/rocke...

Can confirm that the Rockets got Cody Zeller and a 2028 2nd-round pick from the Hawks in exchange for the rights to Alpha Kaba, who the Hawks drafted in 2017. The Rockets had to move Jaden Springer to make room for Zeller, who may or may not stick around. www.houstonchronicle.com/sports/rocke...

Story on the Rockets reportedly trading draft capital for Jaden Springer and a 2030 2nd-round pick. It's a cost-cutting move for the Celtics, and a cheap way for the Rockets to get a pick plus a young guy with defensive upside who they may or may not keep. www.houstonchronicle.com/sports/rocke...

NEW YORK — D’Angelo Russell celebrated his game-winner with his ice-in-the-veins gesture, something the Rockets lacked in yet another late collapse to the Nets on Tuesday at Barclays Center. t.co/QMXzwpVHUD

Whether playing big or small, the Rockets proved that they could still blow a lead in a 124-118 loss to the Knicks at Madison Square Garden. “Even our supposed defenders got cooked,” Ime Udoka said. www.houstonchronicle.com/sports/rocke...

Alperen Şengün and Jock Landale are both out tonight, per Ime Udoka. Udoka said Şengün could still play on tis road trip and characterized Fred VanVleet's ankle injury as "week-to-week" but didn't have a timeline. www.houstonchronicle.com/sports/rocke...

Jock Landale has been added to the injury report as doubtful (illness). There's a possibility the Rockets could be down to just one healthy center, Steven Adams, against the Knicks. www.houstonchronicle.com/sports/rocke...

Rockets centers Alperen Şengün (left calf contusion) and Steven Adams (left ankle soreness) are both listed as questionable to play in Memphis on Thursday night. The Grizzlies will have all their main guys available.

"We got a lot of pit bulls on our squad." "Our staffs are all hoopers." The best postgame quotes from the Rockets after their win in Boston, including some not shown on TV. Plus, video of Amen Thompson's *other* game-winner from OTE a few years ago. www.houstonchronicle.com/sports/rocke...

Incredibly, Ime Udoka's Rockets now have a better winning percentage on the season than the defending champion Celtics

Attempted to put into words what just happened at TD Garden, but here are five to start: Amen Thompson and Dillon Brooks. www.houstonchronicle.com/sports/rocke...

END 1Q: Rockets 31, Celtics 27. Houston came back from down 9 thanks to hot 3-point shooting from Dillon Brooks (12 pts) and downhill scoring from Amen Thompson (14 pts). Jaylen Brown has 10 pts for Boston, Kristaps Porzingis 8 pts.

The venue had changed, but the storyline was playing out the same as the Houston Rockets were coughing up yet another double-figure lead in the fourth quarter against the Cleveland Cavs. Sometimes, the sequel is just as thrilling as the original. www.houstonchronicle.com/sports/rocke...

Houston Rockets center Alperen Şengün was asked whether the Rockets took pride in beating the team with the NBA’s best record. “I mean, we're second in the West,” Şengün said. “They had the best record, but we didn't care about that, you know?" www.houstonchronicle.com/sports/rocke...

Rockets F Tari Eason is making his return tonight vs the Kings after missing more than a month. Ime Udoka said the postponement of the Rockets’ game in ATL gave Eason an extra day to recover. Eason to play 20-25 min tonight. Jeff Green will start with Fred VanVleet out.

After beating the Grizzlies twice, the Rockets are confident but not done yet. “We can improve vastly still, and that's the good part about it... We know we can get so much better, and that's why we're excited about where we're at and where we can get to.” www.houstonchronicle.com/sports/rocke...

FINAL: Rockets 135, Wizards 112. Amen Thompson kicked things off and Jalen Green and Alperen Sengun took it from there and put the game out of reach. t.co/8wRb6AZgkH

The Rockets are in the locker room postgame in DC excitedly looking at highlights and stats from Reed Sheppard’s G League game tonight. “He’s f—ing balling, man!” “Did you see he had a dunk?”

The Rockets announce they have assigned rookie Reed Sheppard to the G League RGV Vipers. This is not wholly unexpected. Sheppard logged DNPs for the Rockets in three of the last four games and five of the last 11. The Vipers play three home games this week while the Rockets play three road games.

FINAL: Rockets 119, Lakers 115. The Rockets almost let a 22-point lead evaporate but got gritty. Jalen Green scored 33 points on 12-of-24 shooting. Amen Thompson had a double-double in his return (23 points, 16 rebounds). Houston won 49-39 on the glass. www.houstonchronicle.com/sports/rocke...

Aaron Holiday. Jeff Green. Cam Whitmore. All are part of a select group of Rockets who battle in extra workouts. There's an MVP chain and a WWE belt, but the real prize is opportunity. Inside the Stay Ready Crew and why they're more important than ever: www.houstonchronicle.com/sports/rocke...

Jeff Green starts for the Rockets tonight instead of the injured Jabari Smith Jr. Green played 9 previous games for Houston this season, all off the bench. Amen Thompson will replace Smith in the starting lineup going forward after his suspension is done.

The Rockets ended a two-game losing streak with a 110-99 win over the Mavs, powered by Cam Whitmore’s explosive second quarter and Alperen Sengun’s career-high six steals www.houstonchronicle.com/sports/rocke...

Rockets 102, Pelicans 74 after three. Rockets 41 points in the third quarter a season high. VanVleet and Green combine for 55. Şengün four assists from a triple double. With Pels swarming to him, Rockets four 3s from a season high.

Rockets 61, Pelicans 43 at half. Rockets hit a lull in the second quarter, but got Şengün going late. He has 8 points, 11 rebounds. Green with 21.

Reed Sheppard, 1 of 7 on Monday, missed his three shots in his first-half run and the frustration began to show. He is 3 of 15 in the four games since he sat out the two NBA Cup games.

Rockets up to five blocked shots four minutes into the second quarter. Their season high (and the NBA season high) for a game is the 14 the Rockets had in Philadelphia.

Rockets 39, Pelicans 2 after 1. Tonight's collection of J. Greens combine for 18 (16 for Jalen, two for Javonte, DNP for Jeff.) Rockets shoot 60%, 50% on 3s. Rockets match their top-scoring first quarter with last week's against New Orleans.

Whitmore 3 off a slick drive and kick from Green. Rockets up 32-20. They are 20-3 when leading by 10 or more.

Jalen Green puts in an alley-oop layup, has 13 points in 7 1/2 minutes. Had 34 against the Pelicans last week.

Rockets had their best shooting game of the season against the Pelicans last week. That was with Dillon Brooks going 10 of 16, 6 of 10 on 3s. Pels will pack the paint and test the Rockets' 3-point shooting, as everyone does, especially with Brooks out.

Rockets starters: Thompson, Smith Jr., Şengün, Green, VanVleet Pelicans starters: Jones, Murphy III, Missi, McCollum, Murray

Houston Rockets' Tari Eason sits against New Orleans Pelicans. But he sees the bright side houstonchronicle.com/sports/rocke... via @houstonchronicle.com

Rockets forward Tari Eason is out tonight in New Orleans, Ime Udoka said. "Possible" return tomorrow.

ICYMI, Focused and motivated, Houston Rockets wash out 'sour taste' of opener with blowout of Hornets. Along the way, they might have shown how far they have come since then. houstonchronicle.com/sports/rocke... via @HoustonChron

Another Rockets time out. Udoka not pleased with the way the defense has slipped after the lead reached 34. Offense more stagnant, too. Rockets with one assist in first nine minutes of the second half. Had 14 in the first half.

Rockets 31, Hornets 15. Matches fewest points Rockets have allowed in an opening quarter. Rockets shoot 54.2%, including 3 of 7 on 3s. Hornets 24%, 1 of 11 on 3s.
