It'll never stop making me feel insane that writers are made to feel crazy for appropriately valuing their craft while guys who haven't written an email on their own in three years are painting themselves as essential to the future

Zooming in to read a few cans: ‘The Mountain Eagle’, ‘Magnificent Ambersons (first cut)’, ‘Greed’ (original) …

I set my mics up in an old metal shipping trunk & left it recording overnight during a Gale force NorWest storm... Retrieved four hours of recordings & have released two sound libraries from it, first wind rumbles & gusts - AMB024 WIND TRUNK #sounddesign #gameaudio hissandaroar.com/v3/soundlibr...

This is one of my favourite reads in a long time and I love the connection between Rachael, Susan Cooper and their books

the secret history is a book about how your college friends will push you off a cliff if they find out you're 24

I feel like a lot of guys called Al must be getting a negative reaction these days whenever we see their name … before we realise it doesn’t say AI.

Very pleased to share the cover for the upcoming (October 2025) US edition of The Grimmelings, published by Margaret K. McElderry @simonkids.bsky.social! Cover illustration by the wonderful Justin Hernandez who also did this other cover if that tells you anything… 😚 #kidlit #spookymg #middlegrade

Looking for some weird climate fiction? Jordan Kurella's sentient mountain novella Death of Mountains should be next on your TBR. Out now from Lethe Press. bookjockeyalex.com/2025/04/24/r...

"AI is coming, its inevitable" no its not you sniveling weirdo. how are those 3D TVs going. how are NFT markets looking these days. Seen anything cool in the metaverse lately? anyone who says we need to resign to using it, that itll be here whether we like it or not, is a feckless dipshit.

This is one of mine. I recommend you listen to the audio if you can because I sound _great_ but also because the clips from the film add so much. www.rnz.co.nz/life/screens...

oh great what now

Quint and Moriarty back in action!

Here's my review of Strays & Waifs: A Chasing Ghosts Mystery, by Mandy Hager - a well-written, vivd mystery for adults that starts with #climatechange but goes to some surprising places: www.timjonesbooks.co.nz/2025/04/23/b... #mystery #thriller #climatefiction

".. I don’t think that any one group inside New Zealand should be insisting that their way of doing things is the most appropriate for all of them.” - Speaker Brownlee, without a hint of irony

Milton Caniff, the creator of the newspaper comic strips Terry & the Pirates and Steve Canyon, on the cover of Newsweek dated April 24, 1950.

Love to see more light is being shown on the Atlas Network and its far-right agenda, and how close it is with David Seymour being reported on. #nzpol www.abc.net.au/news/2025-04...

Gott love it when (formerly) close colleagues turn on you and there’s a new humiliating story leaked each day until you’re destroyed.

I can’t understand how they’re using (or *think* they’re using) the word “honest” in this context.

Important thread. And yet I've not seen the media take this up any further than one report by One News.

It's rare you hear a journalist explain precisely what Brian Tamaki is doing when he attacks the LGBTQI community, and what he's lying about, and what motivated him instead of just mindlessly quoting whatever he says. John Campbell, solid dude.

Colleagues, the autism registry doesn’t exist without our participation Repeat after me: fuck you, make me If you care about Autistic people “Fuck you, make me.”

The evidence continues to accrue that it isn't so much the PM won't discipline his minor party ministers, it's that he can't He can't risk the drama back home while he does the only thing he has shown aptitude for: glad-handing and hobnobbing with dignitaries overseas www.rnz.co.nz/news/politic...

Excellent post below.

Perhaps appropriately, the teevee guy’s big vision for the armed forces is to obsess over the cosmetic indicia of toughness. Maybe he’s so uneasy about trans folks because his whole career is performing (a cartoonish version of) gender.

As I have been saying from day 1, it’s a Winston Peters-David Seymour govt and Luxon is just their Press Secretary with a glorified title.

Orson Welles's TOUCH OF EVIL - L.A. premiere this day in 1958 - German release poster

It finally clicked: The reason "warfighter" sounds so stupid is because it's an idiot's attempt to flip the script on "peacekeeper", and it's been picked up by a bunch of other idiots who spend their lives imagining they're in a Jean-Claude Van Damme movie from about 1989.

SURPRISE!

I saw this on fb today so I’ve nicked it. Gave me quite the giggle.

Peters is looking at the Yanks and saying "this is how much of a bully you're allowed to be", and as a nation we need to make our refutation of this behaviour loud and clear
