Interesting that HMPPS say they are at 99.5% of their target staffing figure for prison officers (questions-statements.parliament.uk/written-ques...). It's obviously a separate issue from inexperience and churn, but still doesn't seem to match what you hear in practice.

Good to see the Guardian covering this report on women's experiences of prison, highlighting the impact that a failure to provide basic care has on women in prison.

Where they're moving to three-weekly collections in South Gloucestershire, there is going to be a more regular collection for nappies. I think some personalisation/flexibility is key to making this sort of thing - generally a good idea, imo - work.

Yes, it's very depressing how little has changed. As HMIP and Ofsted have both said, if anything it's got worse. And that's despite a lot of hard work by lots of good people. But maybe the next lot of contracts will be better...

I used to be chief executive of the Restorative Justice Council. Direct restorative justice - meetings between victims and ‘their’ offender, managed by a trained facilitator - is a well-established practice. Definitely not a new thing.

It’s odd, isn’t it, how companies who hadn’t been able to employ people leaving prisons before because of safety or customer confidence suddenly found a way round those issues when there was a labour shortage. Still, better late than never and all that.

Thanks for putting this together. I’d love to be added if there’s still space!
