Went to the theatre with a friend last night, and she said she always anticipates a theatre trip excitedly expecting it to be the best thing she's ever seen. What a lovely thing. I don't think I feel that way in advance about anything very often.

Subtitles are ace for wider access but unless the vast majority of lyrics can be understood by most people, a show fails at the most basic level. We wouldn't accept lighting that kept half the cast in shadow. Same shd apply to mangled or muffled lyrics. I think this about opera sung in English too.
