Really fun and interesting chat with @alanlevinovitz.bsky.social about teaching religion in a university setting.

This essay has it all: Anthony Bourdain, cool theology… okay it has two things, but still it’s great.

This was a fun conversation, and I really appreciate this take on demons.

A pro-Russia intelligence director, an anti-vaccine health secretary. Cool. Cool cool cool.

Someone signed off an email with “PoC,” and my mind scrolled through "Person of color” and ”Piece of crap” before landing on “Peace of Christ.”

On X, my sister (running for judge) was targeted by a right-wing hate group. About 150 of the comments insulted her appearance, sexuality, or gender. I reported the 10 worst comments to the site. The over/under for how many will be disciplined by X is 1. (I should say we’re 0 for the first 5.)

I really enjoy this reflection from Brando Ambro. So many Christians want to "make America great again” without any real sense of what greatness is according to the way of Jesus.

“The combination of political radicalism and biblical Christianity makes William Stringfellow a strange but refreshing voice today, when Christian nationalism is ascendant and the liberal opposition has quit the stage.” – Mac Loftin www.christiancentury.org/features/pol...

Why are historians reevaluating Jimmy Carter’s presidency? And whatever happened to his version of the Christian faith? Randall Balmer chats with our @jonmathieu.bsky.social. youtu.be/nyhy_11vxP4

We’re here! If you don’t know the Century (a monthly magazine of thoughtful, independent, and progressive content about faith and culture), check out this list of our top articles from 2024. If you do know us, please share this post so that folks can find us here.

If government employees are going to be banned from talking about DEI, I guess the rest of us should talk about the ways that equitable and inclusive communities of diversity are diversifying in the name of inclusive equity and equitable inclusivity, diversely and equitably and inclusively.

Just in time for this polar vortex, our furnace went down to about 50% functionality. So we’re trying to survive. I do not recommend icebox living, seriously zero stars, BUT having a space heater cranking when you step out of the shower may be the innovation humanity’s been waiting for.

Excited about the content we are making at CC. Check out our top articles from last year. (Also my roundup of exvangelical women’s memoirs made the list! Shoutouts to my friend @caitwest.bsky.social and hopfully-future-friends @sarahmccammon.bsky.social and @lizcoolj.bsky.social.)

I know we don’t need another conspiracy theory but hear me out. Like ten years ago, buffalo chicken dip was everywhere. Restaurants were making it, people were bringing it to parties. WHAT HAPPENED to buffalo chicken dip?

Every time I drink a London fog, I think it tastes like Fruity Pebbles. Which is why I keep drinking London fogs.

Author Jeff Munroe is a man of multi-talents. Recently he was a guest of Christian Century host, @jonmathieu.bsky.social on this episode of The Christian Century podcast. https://buff.ly/3DWUcEh #poetry

I had all these aspirations for the new year but then I got obsessed with first amendment audit videos.

In 2018, I asked Jimmy Carter what question he’d ask God first when they meet face to face. He replied, “I think I would be in a mode of thanksgiving.” I’m glad that he's now dwelling in eternal gratitude (and perhaps also asking God a few questions). www.christiancentury.org/interviews/w...

I think if you’re able to open up a new box of tissues and remove exactly one tissue without tearing it, it’s time for someone to start your epic fantasy story arc by revealing to you that you’re the long-awaited tissue god.

My sister Amy and I went back to our hometown to judge a speech/debate tournament at our old high school. The building has been majorly improved in the 20 years since I’ve been there. I asked Amy who has glowed up more, the school or the two of us. Without a pause: “Us.” #siblings

Why yes, I did write about lesbian necromancers in outer space in the latest issue of the Christian Century. Achievement unlocked. (this is where I would tag author Tamsyn Muir, who appears not to be on bluesky) www.christiancentury.org/features/gif...

I’ve never had a truly viral tweet, but I’m glad my most celebrated one was my argument that I’m zero degrees from Kevin Bacon. My mom is a good sport.

I’ve never listened to much metal music, but this article is really interesting and the illustration is awesome. www.christiancentury.org/features/mus...

Just unexpectedly shared a smile with an older lady making pretzels at an Auntie Anne’s in the airport and it sort of restored my hope for humanity.

This is just capitalism, isn’t it? We encourage “innovation,” bringing us helpful things we’re grateful for, then in the name of profit we make those things terrible.

I’m so grateful for air travel and yet, at the same time, everything about air travel sucks.

There have been many appropriations of Bonhoeffer’s story. I’m grateful for this helpful reflection grounded in his real and complex history, from @vjbarnett.bsky.social: www.christiancentury.org/features/the...

Hello new followers! I do many things. The one thing I am most proud of is being a pastor of an open and affirming international Xn community helping folks find their own way in faith. I distantly recall having hot takes on various things. I trust that someday the heat, and the takes, will return. For now I offer only tepid suggestions: Be kind. Take care of yourself. Don’t be afraid to ask for help.

For those doing the math, yes this is my spouse, yes today is our wedding anniversary, and yes we watched the film “Hot Frosty.”
