Some Missouri leaders want to transfer funds from @MOEducation public schools to corporate "choice" schools. One interesting argument I hear is that "state funding for public schools in Missouri is up 17% since 2005"---they don't mention the rest of the story. #WereNotFools

Missouri schools @MOEducation could lose lots of funding this year as @GovMikeKehoe wants to transfer money from public schools to corporate schools. Discussion-Dr. Kari Monsees, DESE deputy commissioner on how school funding works. @MASALeaders @moasbo www.kcur.org/podcast/kans...

Leadership is often about perspective; in education funding, representatives think their local school reflects an entire state. In Missouri, it's easier not to fully fund an education formula when your local school is not as reliant on state funds.

Latest Gallop poll finds elementary teachers as highly honest and ethical, rated second only to nurses. Americans rate the “honesty and ethical standards of grade-school teachers” high or very high. Teachers-Happy Valentine's Day-You Are Loved! ❤️ www.edweek.org/leadership/a...

Budget battle over Missouri Gov. Kehoe’s school funding proposal. A private school grad, Kehoe's budget $300 million short on public schools-yet, provides $50 million more to private schools. ://missouriindependent.com/2025/02/12/budget-battle-brewing-over-gov-mike-kehoes-school-funding-proposal/

One thing I've noticed is that people that like to judge and complain about teachers often want to become a teacher, but they're just not interested in the teaching part. media1.giphy.com/media/g56610...

School Superintendent turnover has increased-40%+ of school districts had at least one change in superintendent between 2019-20 & 2023-24. Study finds that student achievement generally decreases after a superintendent’s departure. 👀👉https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/abs/10.3102/01623737241310837

Trump signs order aiming to ban trans athletes from women's sports. The new order threatens to deny federal funds for schools that allow transgender athletes to compete in K-12 and college sports. www.nytimes.com/live/2025/02...

Most of my friends vote differently than I do; my wife often cancels out my vote. Do I "fight" with those that disagree with me? No. Do we talk about things we disagree about? All the time. Do we convince each other? Not often, but we're still friends; it's worth the effort. 🙂

Very important story for our rural school districts in America that have national forest lands. #GOP Congress fails to fund program that helped cover school funding losses due untaxable federal lands. #RuralKidsMatter www.news-leader.com/story/news/e...

Trump orders Education and other departments to enhance school choice. Now stop all efforts to redirect Missouri education funds for “school choice.” Let the feds pay for it—state education funds should stay in public schools. @MASALeaders

Rural schools need state funding to remain competitive. As wealthier suburban school districts can generate revenue for things like salaries, technology, and facilities, --rural schools can't keep up. To see Missouri DEAD LAST in % state funding is sobering for rural schools.

Kennett Schools, one of the largest school districts in the Missouri "Bootheel" region of the state, adopts 4 day school week for 2025-2026. With school funding warnings coming out of Jeff City, I suspect it will be a busy year with new adopters. Schools are still strugging to find/keep teachers.

Auschwitz was at the end of a long process. It did not start from gas chambers. This hatred was gradually developed by humans. From ideas, words, stereotypes & prejudice through legal exclusion, dehumanization & escalating violence... to systematic and industrial murder. Auschwitz took time.

Schools are no longer protected from immigration raids. Trump-controlled U.S. Department of Homeland Security lifted the practice of avoiding immigration enforcement at locations where students gather, like schools. www.k12dive.com/news/schools...

PART of the high teacher attrition rate is about the money---but the larger reason teachers leave the classroom is a perceived lack of respect and searching for work/life balance. Basically, other careers have higher pay, flexibilty, and you're treated better. This must change.

When you ask your son what he wants for Christmas and he says “to see a NBA game at Madison Square Garden.” ??? Old Hillbilly Dad heads to the big city! 😜

The latest data from U S Census Bureau shows Missouri school district family poverty, with darker colors representing higher levels of poverty. Highest levels of poverty in south-central and south-east part of the state-- areas struggling to retain young families. #RuralSchoolsMatter

Being a Democrat or Republican that supports public schools has little to do with politics. There are public school champions on both sides. The difference is some see education $ as a community investment. Others see education $ as potential profits for political contributors.

From NYTimes.

Study looks at reasons for teacher shortages. While compensation is a factor, it is not the primary concern for many educators. 43% of teachers indicated they would consider staying in the profession if they had a better work-life balance. cbs6albany.com/news/crisis-...

The older I get the more I enjoy the wisdom of James Norbury’s book “Big Panda and Tiny Dragon.” I've had some great company in my life!

Newest data shows troubling trend in Missouri teacher workforce. Last year % of teachers with 0-5 yrs of experience and 21+ years of experience at high points. Teachers with 6-20 yrs of experience at low. As veterans leave schools-who will replace them? Will there be enough rookies?

Some of my fondest professional memories are of looking across the lunchroom in the rural schools where I worked to see the richest kids happily eating lunch at the same table as the poorest kids. They had no idea how unusual this was in America today. #Friends4Life @nrea1

On December 26, 1972, at 7:50 in the morning, Harry Truman passed away at the age of 88. Harry Truman said, "I never forgot who I was, where I came from, or where I was going back to, and if you can do that, things usually work out alright in the end."

I saw this I'm not good at sports in any way, but I played baseball up through Little League. I often played center field——but I'm definitely not fast. One of my coaches told me I had to play center field because if I played left or right field I’d always end up talking to people along the fence 😂
