@sccmcriticalcare.bsky.social launches an ICU Centers of Excellence Program at #SCCM2025 sccm.org/clinical-res...

Thing is I am just not surprised and this does still happen, I have surgical friends in training with appalling stories. Absolutely horrendous and as well as being nasty and leading to mental health problems, it isn’t a safe environment for patients or their outcomes…

Why diverse teams perform and problem solve better - wisdom and knowledge is needed, but the more frames of reference a team possesses, the wider the pool of ideas (from Matthew Syed’s book - Rebel thinking)

TBI from mild through to severe is pretty reliant on prompt retrieval and supportive care, but there are some exciting therapies which are genuinely likely to be seen in clinical trials soon #ansky #medsky #meded

I (somewhat obsessively) read at least one paper a day, which can be tricky when I run out of interesting new articles in my fields of research This is one of the reasons I enjoy @bsky.app. It’s found today’s read for me 👇☕️😊

When I started out as a junior doctor in the 1980s, it was quite common to bring people back after discharge to check on their progress. They came back to the “SHO” clinic a week or two later. This practice is uncommon now so I was interested to read this snippet in the @bmj.com. #MedSky 🧵 1/n

Diversity improves the intelligence of a wider team and actually elevates a team above a non diverse one with respect to performance, with a fair amount of evidence to substantiate that. Heterogeneity of ideas enhances problem solving.

the fact that this is just a straightforward retelling of yesterday's events without hyperbole

Could it be?!

I spoke to some of the doctors affected by the MRCP results fiasco, who told me the error has been compounded by a lack of transparency and poor communication www.bmj.com/content/388/...

Pregnancy related sepsis soared because of grey areas about legal definitions of abortion - especially for women in second trimester. This is an appalling consequence.

Really important convo - these jabs are more wide ranging than weight loss and diabetes, huge raft of cardiovascular etc benefits - judgement doesn’t fix obesity and it’s a significant public health issue - whatever we do to reduce the impact is a win for society

My one and only carotid puncture was ultrasound guided, in st6 and I still couldn’t explain why it happened…!

And yet we have administrations decimating research grants…what if no one had ever found Penicillin?! What a world

Endothelial biomarkers can significantly help determine severity in early sepsis and we should be using them - ideally point of care :P scholar.google.co.uk/scholar?q=en... #ansky #meded #medsky #icu

Calling our PICU colleagues!! 🧒👦 ✔️ out the just-out all-⭐️ editorial by R Pierce & C Sallee in #journal_CHESTCritCare on prognostic enrichment in peds sepsis-resp failure: Editorial: www.chestcc.org/article/S294... Original study: www.chestcc.org/article/S294... #OpenAccess

Quite insane this has to even be considered

This is just appalling, absolutely no one should be re sitting. They should also be heavily reimbursed for both the exam fee and any job ramifications. Medicine seems to get away with things other structures and organisations don’t.

Significant paradoxical risk of death from bleeding in late (> 3 hour administration) of TXA - activates urokinase and other pathways onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/...

Valproate can cause significant mitochondrial dysfunction - a problem in overdose / toxicity www.nature.com/articles/s41... #ansky #medsky

Let’s bring all the scientists to Europe! What an absolute joke and catastrophic dent in the short to medium term future of the US Are we really sure this isn’t just Russian dismantling? It’s bonkers

Blumenthal: "What world is he living in? It is not only contrary to the facts and the truth but utterly despicable. A disgusting betrayal of a country that has bled and fought and died for freedom ... the president's surrender is pathetic and weak."

Tbf maybe a sizeable push towards a reunification of and independent Europe is no bad thing.

New data on maternal mortality and anaesthesia interventions in Japan. Hasegawa et al recommend regionalisation & centralisation of obstetric facilities to make more efficient use of anaesthesia resources and reduce mortality due to #anaesthesia www.bjanaesthesia.org/article/S000...

Once again I am leaving the Munich Security Conference in a low mood. Amongst all the noise, the US signalled their plans for Europe, so things are becoming clearer. But things are clearly not good. This is what we now know, and what we have to do about it:🧵1/17
