People’s reactions to these stories tend to be of the leopards-eating-faces variety but this is a great piece of reporting in part about how voters very disconnected from politics make their choices. www.washingtonpost.com/politics/202...

Can’t stop thinking about Mummy Pig’s pregnancy and how she’s having just one baby each pregnancy which is totally unheard of for a pig

Now google is more or less unusable for any quick searches, what’s the best alternative?

A rare thing in TV these days: a chief content leader who actually seems to respect and value content.

HARD AGREE

Are we all pretending that this series of Unforgotten isn’t significantly inferior to the others (esp 1 to 4)? Still has its moments but it’s throwing the issues about like darts at a dartboard. Like a Twitter trending list from 2023.

So enjoy this Substack. The book in question sounds fantastic, too.

Excellent film programming but also what the audience says at 8pm after watching Jeanne Dielman from 4pm.

New #StrongMessageHere is up, on #BBCSounds and all podcast platforms. This week: JD Vance, Europe, and ‘The threat from within.’

Listening to Desert Island Discs. What a woman Mina Smallman is: I don’t know how she puts one foot in front of the other every morning. I think I detected Lauren L’s voice break on more than one occasion.

Today's slice of Old Fool pie. Full episode available now on all your favourite podcast platforms. @quantick.bsky.social @ianmartin.bsky.social and @lisaholdsworth.bsky.social on brilliant form. Tell a pal. (by which we mean share this, please!)

Oh my, actually can’t wait for @stephenkb.bsky.social reaction to this. It’s Kendrick v Drake for broadsheet columnist nerds.

Next time someone calls me cynical when I raise my eyebrows at company “values” and question the sincerity, I will not be responsible for my actions.

What are the Chairs and non-execs of all these ALBs and regulators *doing*? How are they earning their £££ Why are they constantly signing off the budgets and annual reports and funding continual “change” projects that rarely engender change?

I do think people need to understand the difference between all AI and specific LLMs quite quickly or the (strong imo) argument about the use of them will be undermined in minutes.

There is an essential difference between “ill-judged”, “pious” or “hypocritical” policies and racial animus being given full throat by a bunch of incredibly wealthy autocrats, and if people can’t see it I am a bit worried tbh

Almost agree with this wholeheartedly, but for me, it’s not political reporting per se that’s the issue, but the lobby system. Abolish it yesterday, please. Totally broken.

I know I’m an old fashioned Gen X, but this is gossip, not reporting. It’s affecting the body politic imo.

☹️

time for my annual reminder to not ask women to do public speaking or whatever else for your company for free for Women's History Month/International Women's Day, please and thank you

Yes, if there’s something we media types hate, it’s having people want to read our stuff

HAVE YOU GOT A GOOD PODCAST? DO YOU KNOW OF A GOOD PODCAST? I'm always looking for original, passionate and offbeat podcasts for my previews in Sunday Times Culture. Hit me up.

Sometimes the Daily Star can get to the nub of story far more succinctly – and certainly far more entertainingly – than the FT, Bloomberg or BBC can.

Ageism, particularly for women, is still frequently cited as one of the top challenges for Women in PR members. If you are a woman working in PR, communications or public affairs, please take five minutes to complete the survey. The form closes on 31st January: survey.opiniumresearch.co.uk

Needless to say, Googling reveals that the sentencing has in fact been covered by the media - the BBC, Sky, STV, the Independent in the past few minutes.

The lobby system is completely broken pt 97.

Nearly every single reality/reality adjacent show viewer goes through these stages: 1) “ Oh, I love it and I’m not a reality TV person. This one is different though, much better and actually quite clever”

About a year since I recieved my sub copy before or on the day of it arriving in the shop, and it’s usually at least a week late. Not revived this yet. No the magazine’s fault, but the state of the post these days does make subscriptions harder to justify.

This is really shocking: and true. I discovered I'd just been upgraded without consent to an AI-enshittified package that was about £30 a year more expensive. Strongly recommend anyone who has an Office 365 follow the below advice to get rid of it

Wonderful story. Deservedly on the front page.

Goodness. This is a huge problem for corporate communications and communicators. (And for democracy too, obvs, but thinking professionally here.)
