1. Automated software tests are codified requirement constraints and usage definitions 2. If you don't have constraints and usage defined, you can't write meaningful or valuable tests 3. An implemented module is not equivalent to constraint and usage definitions

Playing some God of War Ragnarok: damn they really nailed a particular sense of swirled emotions during the wolf/fox race Animations, colors, level design, music, writing, and voice acting orchestrated to a sense of speed and space...a nostalgic flurry of freedom, frustration, grief, and confusion.

Programmers sometimes say they don't like abstractions (which hide implementations) because it requires them to manage a larger mental map of how everything works. But for me, having fewer abstractions requires me to manage a larger mental map of how everything works.

If you know how to run the kind of research to try to prove yourself wrong (vs validating a solution), you can uncover real motivations, the unknowns you’ve yet to identify, and most importantly you own biases. It can yield guiding principles beyond the solution.
