Glad to see this conversation happening in a major outlet, and by Daniel Pink of all people! Really wish he had cited more of the folks who have been working on grading reform for many years (not necessarily me! just more people!) though. www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/202...

Rah! Rationalising going gradeless is finding its way into the mainstream. This is our time!

“In the world that college students are about to enter, a 19th-century lettering scheme is about as useful in promoting excellence as a quill pen.” www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/202...

This week, @josheyler.bsky.social and I signed a contract with @princetonupress.bsky.social for a new book called How to Grade: Alternative Models for the College Classroom. You can read more about the book today on my blog! emilypittsdonahoe.substack.com/p/announcing...

As promised, here is @empittsdonahoe.bsky.social's blog post that explains more about our new book project with Princeton University Press. emilypittsdonahoe.substack.com/p/announcing...

I am beyond thrilled to be working on a new book about alternative grading with my colleague Josh Eyler! Find more details about the book in Josh's post below or on my blog tomorrow: open.substack.com/pub/emilypit...

Exciting news! @empittsdonahoe.bsky.social & I have signed an advance contract with Princeton University Press to write *How to Grade: Alternative Models for the College Classroom* for the Skills for Scholars series. We'll be working w/editor Matt Rohal, and we couldn't be more thrilled to do so.

In 2015, I used Twitter and FB for a social media campaign to help get my wife medicine she desperately needed & that had been denied by insurance. We were eventually successful and--because of that--I said I'd be on Twitter until the lights went out. I just deactivated my account. No more.

No, [REDACTED ORG NAME], I won't be self-nominating to be part of [REDACTED] Committee until the leadership of [REDACTED ORG NAME] shows some degree of competence in responding to current crises in higher ed & providing Centers for [REDACTED & REDACTED] w/tools they can use in this moment.

No one understands how universities work, so it’s good to have clear explanations like this of why simple-sounding ideas don’t actually make sense.

University of Mississippi faculty and grad students have shown up en masse for @bbarre.bsky.social’s fabulous talk on helping students to read more effectively!

Come study with my amazing colleagues and me! I'm happy to talk to any students who are interested in applying and especially so if you are interested in research on grading or the science of learning.

Huge shout out to @josheyler.bsky.social & @rickwormeli.bsky.social for answering the call to contact Iowa legislators and educate them on standards-based practices in assessment, grading, & reporting!

Educator friends in Iowa: have you heard about this new bill to prohibit schools from using standards-based grading? Can I be of any help? @covingtonedu.bsky.social @mctownsley.bsky.social www.legis.iowa.gov/docs/publica...

From Michael Roth, president of Wesleyan University: slate.com/life/2025/02...

Yes. Very disappointed. We had just finished a meeting planning a new professional development series when the email came in

It would be one thing to change directions for future grants, but to renege on an existing multi institutional grant contract? That’s terrible.

What he says. Deeply disappointed in @hhmi.bsky.social

Dear @hhmi.bsky.social: As a private organization with billions of available dollars, you should have been exactly the kind of organization to resist government overreach. There is no earthly reason why IE3 should have been shut down. So many are saddened and angry.
