The Ukrainians are very aware that giving up the nukes on their soil after the fall of the Soviet Union is why Russia was able to invade them. And so is every other non-nuclear country.

Captain America: Brave New World was actually quite good. Didn’t love the Leader’s design but it was fine. And I think William Hurt would’ve been a bit better for Ross than Ford but sadly read not to be. But I liked it overall and thought it served its own story and the MCU well.

Excellent work by @texasobserver.org www.texasobserver.org/ice-prosecut...

"America has no king" seems like a good theme to rally around

If anything the US needs more autonomous agencies with far fewer political appointees.

Even though the AI Pin is being shut down, we'll always remember Humane for giving us gems like this:

I know this is ragging on Trump, but Congress should have a budget probably 4-10x higher with 2-5x the staff that makes at least 2x as much. We should want a large and capable legislature able to operate independently of the executive branch at times, to serve as a check on executive power.

Why would we abandon the prosperous, democratic nations of Europe, our allies for one hundred years, to "partner" with weak, poor Russia, a longtime adversary and dictatorship currently in the middle of an unprovoked invasion of a neighboring state? Treason. It's treason

The xAI presentation is very funny because these guys keep talking quite normally about the model and then Musk interjects with shit like "I mean reality is the instantiation of mathematics" and they all have to like nod and agree as if he just said some sagely wisdom.

I'm being very fucking serious right now: the marriage of autocracy and artificial intelligence is the final despotism—an unblinking, tireless tyranny. Lose democracy now, and we may never win it back. The future will not even know freedom was possible. This is the fight. There is no other.

This is so fucking dumb We are not a serious people

Before the fires, it often took over a year to get a permit to build housing in LA. Now we need more homes, and fast. What can California learn from streamlining reforms in other states? I'm in @theatlantic.com with @grimes.bsky.social and Nicole Nabulsi Nosek. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv...

Really need Waymo to open up out to Sunset in Echo Park/Silver Lake and over through to Western. Would basically open up the last of the places I ever go to (except LAX) so I'd ~ never have to take an Uber again.

“The Maryland National Guard must decline events which celebrates individuals based all or in part on immutable characteristics,” the memo said. Douglass was an abolitionist, suffragist, orator and author. That’s what we celebrate him. Let’s be clear: This bars celebrating him because he was Black.

This tweet is itself impeachable imo

the single most un-american and anti-constitutional statement ever uttered by an american president

What these nihilistic vandals are doing to dismantle science & medicine—generations of expertise & public service & life improving benefits—is cultural revolution level national self harm. No foreign foe could inflict such brutal damage & senseless suffering on US so fast & effectively & unresisted.

And another thing. I’m not mad. Don’t put on the HHS website that I’m mad.

Termination notices going out this afternoon to more than 300 employees of the National Cancer Institute. Access likely ends today. Four weeks paid leave and that’s it. Strong power move for Team Cancer.

I'm all about the QALYs baby

Basically, SUCK IT ELON: "OpenAI is not for sale, and the board has unanimously rejected Mr. Musk's latest attempt to disrupt his competition. Any potential reorganization of OpenAI will strengthen our nonprofit and its mission to ensure AGI benefits all of humanity." — OpenAI chair Bret Taylor

Jesus Christ. Psychiatry is awesome and these idiots want to destroy it. Can’t wait for the MAGA parents of millennials to start screeching at them about hire their ssri is melting their brain or whatever

Difficult to stress how much it's complete psycho shit to indiscriminately fire hundreds of thousands of young poorly paid federal employees who probably uprooted their entire lives and moved to take jobs in service of their country for absolutely no reason.

The easiest way to explain what’s happening with Senate votes right now is that Mitch McConnell is old and sick and is haunted by his failure to convict Trump, and is therefore the only senator who doesn’t care if they kill him.

Aella's recent podcast appearance (just jumping around to where she talks) is rough, mostly because the guy is an idiot. Incredibly stupid. Doesn't know anything at all & Aella correctly diagnoses that he doesn't view conversation as a means of attaining truth but domination.

Egg prices need to go higher.

The thing is the only interesting thing in the Walking Dead universe is the CRM, and given all the actual available information I have to say they seem to be right about everything and Rick etc are wrong.

NEW: DOGE is behind the abrupt cancellation of $900 million in contracts overseen by the Institute of Education Sciences, a Department of Education division responsible for much of what we know about the state of U.S. schools. By @jodiscohen.bsky.social & @jsmithrichards.bsky.social

Someone at the American Bar Association ate their Wheaties this morning.

So after promising to focus on safety, they’ve gotten right down to work… on gender terminology?

Dude has been my top pick for president since he announced in 2020.

Not exaggerating when I say I would like a personal, handwritten apology from every pundit who barfed out a dozen "the left wants to change the way you talk!" op-eds based on non-mandatory guidelines in obscure PDFs.
