Yesterday on X I critiqued an abysmally low quality character skin pack for Halo Infinite that evidently costs $27 or something to buy... I pointed out a lot of obvious issues with the quality and that it was unacceptable. Most agreed, but there were still Halo loyalists who want me butterflied.

I've played games all my life. I've made them as an artist for the last 20 years. And yet, as I try to tackle my own game, the whole idea of "what makes a game fun" just seems to have fluttered away out of my head. Massive designer imposter syndrome going on right now.

Doesn't look like I can do a poll here, but chime in! I'm at a point where I need to decide on some direction with my AI horror game. So, should I make it: Serious Horror? Horror Comedy? Serious Horror With Some Humor Sprinkled In? #indiedev

Hi, Bluesky. Meet my game!

Really struggling with how to move forward with my project. If time wasn't so much an issue, I know exactly how I would proceed. But the current scope is daunting for the timeframe I want. Do I simplify/change the direction? Or allow scope to consume?

What’s everyone’s favorite hotspot plugin? I dried Dream UV but it’s very very basic. I’m thinking I’ll go with ZenUV but not 100% sure. Thoughts?

I think they should have instead hired a creative person so that among the three of them there'd be one

3D artist life hack. If you just look at folding as the UV portion of laundry, you eventually learn to enjoy it as relaxation time.

Really awesome technique. Thanks for sharing!

My #PitchYaGame is a game currently called PROJECT JASPER. An atmospheric narrative horror where you play as a 3D artist who has been kidnapped by an AI company, forced to create art to feed the AI. Will you be able to escape and bring down the corporation? Very early WIP shots.

At the beginning of last month I said I was going to announce my #indiegame by the beginning of this month. I started second guessing that, as I am a perfectionist and wanted to have things further along and a nice trailer. But I think I am going to still do it today. Standby.

I am considering the Point (no filter) texture option for my game. I feel it adds a bit of "charm" to the textures that is needed because I simply can't devote the time to texturing every asset like I want. Is this overused? Or does it work okay, still?

Last night my heart sank for a moment when my PC didn’t wake up from sleep and then didn’t respond when I pushed the power button. It did boot back up, finally, but it’s been janky lately. The thought of getting my PC back reinstalled to where it is now is daunting.

Just watched a devlog by a guy using a 2.5D engine. It takes Quake2 model formats. And he said he owned Milkshape3D and used that for exports. I love indie devs. Such a scrappy bunch!

Do we love Jordan or what?!?!?

I got so sick of using trim sheets after a few projects in the past. But it might be time to return to them.

1000% yes

Incredibly generous! Thank you.

The best cover I've heard of this song. Absolutely love the passion. I heard he's since been hired by Hans Zimmer a few times to take part in some of his movie scores. So cool! youtu.be/WH7wUnnt9-Q?...

Why do Unity’s spotlight shadows suck so much?

So I am not wanting to show off too much about my game yet, but I was blocking out a door and animation this morning, and this happened. My kids were watching over my shoulder and found it absolutely hysterical. I did, too, if I am being honest.

Few job titles in life allow you to say, “Dang! That blanket is awesome!” 3D artists ftw.

This is sweet! Nicely done.

This project was something I broke off from a much larger one that was simply too much work but I enjoyed this element enough to make it its own some what finished portfolio pice #3dart #animation #prop #hardsurface

Bluesky's open, quote one art to promote yourself. (It's not exactly modern, but somewhat iconic...)

I tried to tell myself I could do all the art for my first game. And it’s not that I can’t, but it will take so much longer to finish if I did, and I don’t want to avoid shipping just so I do everything myself. Gotta make compromises if I want to get this thing out there.

If you haven’t checked out @markplier.bsky.social’s series on Amazon, The Edge of Sleep, you should. It’s pretty amazing.

Let's give away some free textures! These sketchy tiling textures are a great base for stylized materials in Substance Painter + Designer, Blender, Unreal Engine, all sorts really! I hope you enjoy using them, and please share the love! 🙌 jakebenbow.gumroad.com/l/JB_TilingPainterlyTextures_Vol2
