Great to visit @cec-icr.bsky.social today - thanks for having me, v exciting to see all the cool work that's going on throughout!

The thing about Jack Reacher is that he's so talented at everything, he even writes the books that he's a character in #UseMoreCommas,Please

Last session of the day at #Interphace2025, but there's no signs of any of the speakers flagging yet! Certainly not @blindmath.bsky.social or Denis Headon, who are now presenting

An @ox.ac.uk double act now, with Anna Huhn and @tcell.bsky.social about to discuss a model of the stochastic and spatial process of bivalent binding to predict antibody function. Omer really embodies the #Interphace2025 spirit, with a background in physics, maths, and immunology!

Looking forward to my second talk from @mariasecrier.bsky.social in the space of 4 days - this time with Alexis Barr from @imperialcollegeldn.bsky.social and focussing on cancer quiescence (following a great @oxfordmathematics.bsky.social seminar on Friday about EMT!)

Josh Bull @joshuabull.bsky.social rocking image analysis at #INTERPHACE2025 💥

The final two talks of the morning look to be on a similar theme - @cellmorphosero.bsky.social is about to speak on "How Humans, Computers, Biologists and Mathematicians Can Work Together To Analyse Big Microscopy Data", followed by me on www.muspan.co.uk! #Interphace2025

Next up #Interphace2025: Rodrigo Garcia-Tejera ( @edinbirgh-uni.bsky.social) and Jing-Yi Tian (@ucl.ac.uk) "Integrating Experimental and Computational Approaches to Unravel Stem Cell Homeostasis and Regeneration in Drosophila Spermatogenesis"

Next up at #Interphace2025 - @bertaverd.bsky.social and @bensteventon.bsky.social on "Inference of Gene-Regulatory Networks to Understand Pattern Formation in Morphogenesis"

Next up at #Interphace2025: @sdrsd.bsky.social and Florencia Iacaruso from @crick.ac.uk speak about decoding neural circuits through a joint experimental-computational approach. This approach includes showing movies to mice - their Letterboxd accounts sadly cannot be shared to maintain anonymity.

How do you build a mitochondrial ribosome? "It wasn't as simple as we make it look here" 😯 Our first interdisciplinary talk of the day at #Interphace2025 from Juliane Liepe @mpi-nat.bsky.social and Ricarda Richter-Dennerlein from UMG @unigoettingen.bsky.social - paper here: doi.org/10.1038/s415...

Sure, they crossed it out, but with a bit of effort I'm sure we can make the bar happen #Interphace2025

I just heard that apparently people think stars are formed from giant clouds of gas in space, and I'm not convinced...the whole idea sounds a bit nebulous to me.

I choose to believe that my post led directly to someone deciding to make a new template, and will be using my newfound sway in the department to enact dramatic change (like having biscuits for the Mathematical Biology group)

True chaotic energy is the student who has labelled two data points "B" for before and "A" for after...of course A happens after B, why on earth would you do it the other way round?!

Wait...do Americans not call it a telly?!

I'll be at @crick.ac.uk on Monday at the Interphace symposium, talking about MuSpAn, some great interdisciplinary collaborations, and how we can use maths to complement biological research. If you're around, do come and have a chat! www.crick.ac.uk/whats-on/int... doi.org/10.1101/2024...

This excellent interactive tutorial on misleading data visualizations explores the idea of a "counter chart" — the graph you draw in response to refute a misleading claims flowingdata.com/projects/dis...

One of my Oxford "fun facts" is going back into the cupboard for a while :( The "Angel and Greyhound" was named after A&G meadow...but A&G meadow was originally named after two nearby pubs (The Angel and The Greyhound). So until this week the A&G was a pub named after two completely different pubs!

What fascinates me the most about people who think LLMs are in any way reliable is that they've clearly never asked an LLM for information on literally anything they know the answer to themselves 😅 For what it's worth, today is Monday, February 10, so third time lucky (fourth time not so much)

It's a niche protest, but I hope the biscuits get what they want

When I tell people I have a career in modelling, they assume it's because of my stunning good looks, excellent poise, and natural sense of style. Turns out that for some reason they don't immediately think about systems of differential equations...

The OxCODE Funding Scheme is open for applications! 🔎 For Oxford-based cancer precision prevention and/or early cancer detection research 🔎 Up to £20,000 per award 🔎 Application deadline: Noon, Thurs 27th Feb 2025 See the OxCODE website for more info ⬇️ www.oxcode.ox.ac.uk/about/oxcode...

Thames Valley Police is appealing for the public’s help in tracing a man who went missing in Oxford. Benedict, aged 20, was last seen near Frideswide Square at around 12.50am on Sunday. TVP ask anyone who sees him to call 999 so that he can be traced. www.thamesvalley.police.uk/news/thames-...

NEW: Global biopharma company GSK invests up to £50 million in a collaboration with Oxford to advance the understanding of how cancer develops, which could inform future development of vaccines to prevent cancer. More info ⬇️

TOBLERONIC, not a word?! Honestly, who programs these games? It's like they've never needed to compare something to a Toblerone before.

Google's AI on the difference between "affect" and "effect" - there is no "N", I didn't crop it off - probably because Google has completely fabricated what the R, A, V and E stand for too...

FYI for anyone interested in MuSpAn - we've updated the preprint this week with the full SI. Now featuring more examples of how various different spatial metrics can be strung together in order to make spatial pipelines focussed on specific biological questions! www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...
