I confess I'm always amazed when anyone mentions a movie that isn't Raising Arizona.

Ah, the first day of a new month. When indie authors see their sales reset to zero. Along with their despair that they'll never sell a book again.

I'm finally posting on TikTok and now I remember why I don't like building social media platforms. It's a job you don't get paid for.

Paperback Writer. I don't want to talk about how often I listened to it when I was writing my first few books...

It occurred to me the other day that American Idol no longer creates careers. It actively destroys them.

There. I posted a TikTok. Hope everyone is happy.

People are indie publishing and spending $1000-$2000 and I have zero dollars so I guess it's the traditional publishing route for me.

This world needs a movie co-starring Jason Lee and Jason Scott Lee. Just because.

Ah, good. I'm trying to write an agent query letter for the first time in a decade and I'm realizing I have NO idea whose advice to trust.

Sold another book today. Freelance article came back with minimal changes and a request for more pitches. Finished first major edit on the novel last night. The life of a writer.

I need BookTok to give my Blood Calling series the boost that Dungeon Crawler Carl and ACOTAR got. I need it, badly. Thanks in advance to the universe and/or BookTok.

Apparently, in an effort to get women to have more babies, there's a plan to offer a $5000 "baby bonus." Giving birth costs roughly $18,000. Raising a child to 18 costs roughly $310,000. The cost of childcare ranges from $10,000-$40,000 per year. I think there's a flaw in this plan.

Speaking of something we lost: Lost songs. Back in the day you had to cough up mad money to buy singles to get B sides. Hunt CD and record racks for bootlegs to get your hands on that oddball song you once heard on a friend's half-erased mixtape.

A guy I know said he'd had a Doors song in his head for a few days. Surprisingly, it was a bit of a deep cut, so I pulled it up to listen to it. And here's the thing: Rock stars aren't really dangerous anymore, are they?

One day I walked into the library and realized the "new" section had 40 books in it that week. 40 books, 52 weeks a year. 2000 new books a year. More than I'll read in 10. It's the kind of thing that makes you feel the cold hand of death grasp your heart...

I've always had a soft spot for his Sleeping with the Past Album, in particular the last song on the record, so: Blue Avenue

Song everyone knows: Strange Relationship Songs most people don't know: Pretty Man Beautiful, Loved and Blessed Still Would Stand All Time

I'm guessing not a lot of people even care about American Idol at this point, which makes a ton of sense when you realize they don't even have the winners make records anymore. That said, they've gone ALL IN on making one of the finalists the winner, and it's weird to watch.

The Ain't It Cool News website has been down for a couple of days now, and while it says it will return, it feels like the end of a time when "the internet" could be a source of surprise and wonder and excitement, and not just a place where we're trapped.

I sold two books today and, not gonna lie, it's probably bringing me more comfort and joy than it should.
