Interesting thing for the President to say about a person who, according the government’s lawyers, “has no actual or formal authority to make government decisions himself” and “only has the ability to advise the President, or communicate the President’s directives.”

"The Freedom of Information Act is a crucial tool for keeping the public informed about what their government is up to. ... Yet obtaining documents from government agencies via the open records law is a painstaking, tedious process." Especially when they overtly obstruct.

A reminder: DOGE is making up those numbers. Duffy either knows that or he's an idiot (or possibly both). www.techdirt.com/2025/02/19/i...

"As a threshold matter, municipal governments cannot be libeled. You can say or print whatever you want about the legal entity of Clarksdale. I could write, for instance, that Clarksdale was founded by a syphilitic horse thief who married his cousin" reason.com/2025/02/20/m...

“The number of deaths from the COVID-19 pandemic was so large that it ended up impacting the nation’s Social Security fund — which had a net increase of $205 billion.”

This isn’t even original—he’s plagiarizing PBS.

@justinamash.bsky.social I hope the replies you see in your ex dot com post show you how fruitless (and dangerous) it is to try and get one foot into MAGA.

Musk and his army of dipshits on Twitter keep pointing to Bill Clinton’s federal worker reduction in the 1990s to defend Trump. The difference? Congress passed a law that Clinton signed, he didn’t just get the nearest billionaire to illegally start dismantling the government based on his whims.

I could imagine a worthwhile initiative to cut unnecessary government spending, reduce employees, and phase out some programs and agencies, all done reasonably. But that describes nothing about what Musk is doing. He's just a fascist who thinks anybody who displeases him should be imprisoned.

👀 "If no lawyer within earshot of the President is willing to give him that advice, then I expect you will eventually find someone who is enough of a fool, or enough of a coward, to file your motion. But it was never going to be me." -- AUSA Hagan Scotten, SDNY.

State media, I guess

NEW: We’re suing DOGE under the Freedom of Information Act. Elon Musk and the DOGE team’s attempts to operate in secrecy must be checked. americanoversight.org/new-lawsuit-...

"...The DOGE process, if that is what it is, mocks two basic tenets of our government: that we are nation of laws, not men and that it is Congress which controls spending and passes legislation."

Trump, on the terms of his own EO, has not given DOGE any power to cut spending or shut down agencies, and Musk is not even officially in charge of DOGE. The power he is seizing is completely without any formal basis, much less constitutional. He has no legal authority whatsoever.

New lawsuit against DOGE, Treasury, and OPM for violating the Privacy Act and other laws by unlawfully accessing and disclosing taxpayers’ and Fed workers’ private data in “the largest data breach in American history.” Great job @epic.org and @democracyforward.bsky.social!

Wow. If only like Very Serious Public Health Agencies said stuff like this.
