The Yiddish word for lunch is mitog (מיטאָג) and the word for afternoon is nokhmitog (נאָכמיטאָג) and while I understand that the latter literally just means "after mid-day" my personal headcanon is that Jews are basically hobbits who think of afternoons as "the time after I've eaten my lunch"
